Re: 1977 Conrad Stadium

Any idea what year that video was made? The flood occurred in 1940. So I am guessing this footage was late 1930's. I think I have read about this on the internet and it gave a date. NC 105 into Boone mostly runs on top of what was once the railroad right-of-way. Yeah the video was fall/ summer of 1...

Re: 1977 Conrad Stadium

https://youtu.be/4Ws5_UPjDn8 I want to jump on the Boone history train. I think I’ve posted this before and I hope it’s from way before y’all’s time but sometimes I’m unsure............ But anyway.......it’s an excursion on the ET&WNC RR from Johnson city to Boone where you start out with scenes fr...

Re: 1977 Conrad Stadium

It is sad but I remember those pics. Yes....those expansion pictures had everyone jacked up. Then Owens was expanded and we started to realize that we could go big. Then the west stands were expanded, new press box, and the east side was totally ignored. "We Don't Do It That Way At Appalachian" bec...

1977 Conrad Stadium

I came across my 1977 football press guide and found a couple pictures y’all might find interesting. One shows the potential expansion of Conrad and the other one shows how it was in the 70’s prior to the former expansion.

Re: CLASSLESS JERK!!!!!!!!!!

To all: Go back and look up pictures of Varsity Gym during the years 1975-1985. See if you can find some youtube videos of games with ETSU, Davidson, or Marshall. Talk to folks who were in school back then (like me). Varsity was a bona fide home court advantage. Students packed the place. Most of t...

Re: Most memorable play ever?

I really enjoy reading about the memorable great plays from Mountaineer football lore. However I must mention one that will forever be etched in my mind as one of, if not THE dumbest play call I've ever seen. I forget the year but we had the stink in KBS on a bright Saturday afternoon. We forced the...

Not "most memorable play" but how about a most memorable single performance? October 9, 2004 Richie Williams vs #2 Furmson. Final score App 30, Furmson 29. http://www.college-sports-journal.com/csj-classic-richie-williams-runs-and-guns-asu-past-furman-30-29/ Richie was 40-45 for 413 yards. I was ab...

Re: Most memorable play ever?

This one goes waaaaay back. 1974, ECU game, Homecoming. Jerry Harmon's FG as time expired to win. I was in the BOD and saw the ball split the uprights as we waited in the endzone to begin a post game show. I was on the sideline....47 yarder to win 23-21. Pat Dye coaching ECU and they all crowed all...

Re: Most memorable play ever?

I gotta go with the Jerry Harmon field goal in 1974 also. All we'd heard was how bad ECTC was gonna beat us in Boone. It was a beautiful sight watching that end over end pigskin split the uprights! I'll never forget that moment and never forget that little sophomore date from Hickory with me at the...

It is very intriguing and brings in a lot of thought. Unfortunately it also makes sense which precludes anyone in college football or the NCAA from every making it happen.

Re: Most memorable play ever?

The playoff (Div I-AA as they called it back then) game against JMU, don't remember the exact year. We were ahead by a point or two and JMU was driving with the game clock running out. They were well within field goal range and decided to run one more play to line it up for an easy game winning fie...
