Re: Sunbelt Tournament Rnd 1 vs Little Rock (3/5 8:30pm)

A couple of wins in the tournament would go a long ways toward improving the feel of this season. I think Kerns is doing an excellent job. The 19 day unscheduled hiatus really broke the momentum the Apps had building. Hopefully they have it back this Friday. I think we can pick up a couple here and ...

Re: Can we help make this forum better?

Is there actually a suggestion to make the board a pay-per-view/subscription board? I think that would be bad. Don't think anyone has proposed that as an actual recommendation. I mentioned that upgrading could be more than a one time expenditure due to maintenance and then the possibility of premiu...

Re: Can we help make this forum better?

A GoFundMe is fine if the issue for extra band width is a one time expenditure, but I doubt it is. Maintaining the expanded environment would almost certainly cost more so sustaining that would probably involve charging fees for membership. That's something that the owners have (rightfully in my op...

Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread

I'm not sure it's accurate to say the triple option works with "less" talent. Not meaning to split hairs, but I think the triple option (and the spread that we ran in FCS days) allow teams to succeed with DIFFERENT talent. Specifically, it de-emphasized size and put the emphasis on speed / athletici...

Pierre Banks has been a class act since the day he set foot on the App State campus, and I'm sure long before that. He makes me proud to be a Mountaineer!

Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread

I have to admit that I am really disappointed and surprised at how ineffective Speir has been at WCU. I really thought that he would get them on track but I think there is plenty of evidence to conclude that isn't going to happen.

Re: Top 5 most dominant single-season App defensive performances

I agree with t4pizza's approach here. I'm a numbers guy in my professional life, but one thing I know is that numbers don't always tell the whole story. That's why commentary is almost always provided in order to impose context. Lynch doesn't have the single season stats that some others do, but his...

The best way to distribute the vaccine against COVID-19 is by age. No exceptions should be made.
I can't agree with that. Age with risk factors included (which is what they're doing) makes much more sense in maximizing the spread and reducing overall risk.

I hate to see Raykwon leaving App. He's definitely a talented athlete. I hope he lands somewhere where he can prosper and use those skills....just not at another SBC program. :-)

Re: 1977 Conrad Stadium

I think the first time I ever set foot in Conrad Stadium was in 1979. I attended a game with a gentleman from our church in Elkin who was a big supporter. My HS band also competed in a competition there. I honestly had no idea that the upper section of the West side was apparent brand new (1978). I ...

Re: Tom Brady

I've always thought that naming a GOAT for an entire sport is purely subjective. Comparing performances between positions or even between eras isn't really a quantifiable exercise. It makes for interesting discussions but that's about it. That said, it's hard to argue against Brady, even though I'm ...

Re: RIP: Leon Spinks

The 1976 Olympics were amazing. I had never been a fan of boxing until then but I watched Leon and Michael Spinks and Sugar Ray Leonard all three that summer and followed them during their careers. Leon Spinks was an underdog going into the gold medal round against the Cuban. I still remember the in...

This seems like a desperation move, but I guess he has to do something. With the extra year granted for COVID, he is apparently treating this as a freebie year in terms of continuity. We will see how it turns out.

Red Onion opened my senior year, when I was right across the street in Doughton. Anyone remember what that building was before Red Onion?
It was The Pizza Parlour (I think that was the name) when I was in school and I believe it was a Mellow Mushroom briefly in between.

Re: Favorite High Country Restaurant

Bojangles and Bojangles. OK...this is a joke (kind of). For a more serious response (although I did and still do love Bo's), I ate lunch at the soup and salad bar at the Pizza Parlour (where Red Onion is now)....at least I think that's what it was called. We also loved eating at the Mountain House ...
