Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools

We need to remember that the early signing day was a HUGE benefit to App last year as it helped us sign the vast majority of our commits rather than letting the P5 pick them off while backfilling their last minute holes. It makes a mess this year but overall it benefits G5 programs. If we are going ...

Re: Ledford To Louisville

I would be very surprised if Satt and DG didn't discuss the readiness of current staff, who Satterfield wanted to take with him and what needs to happen (at some level). People love to paint this as a scandal of some sort but I would wager that DG has not been surprised a single time during this pro...

Re: Ledford To Louisville

Whatever. He wasn’t in my top 3 anyway. Just an NC State assistant becoming a Louisville assistant. Well he turned it down. So did Brown. How do you know that they were given an offer to turn down? Looks to me like they withdrew from the process to pursue another option. Alternatively, they intervi...

Re: Josh Gattis

As long as we are in the Sun Belt Conference, we will always be a stepping stone for coaches. Sun Belt has improved over the years, but facts are facts. Not too many coaches see themselves staying in the Sun Belt long term. With that being said, it should be taken into consideration with the next h...

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools

Actually, redemption / forgiveness are core Christian values, so I don't think it's necessarily a cause for accusations of hypocrisy. I have to admit that it is very interesting to see the pattern emerging though....first an AD who was straight from the Baylor fiasco and now Freeze. On the field, it...

Re: The changes begin at App State, and the next chapter looms

Everybody needs to stop taking everything Satterfield says and dissecting it in a vacuum. If Satterfield started bringing in App players as his "solution" the UL folks would go ballistic. His comments are addressing that fact and the perceptions of an ACC fan base. He is going to recruit "UL" player...

Re: Stephon Brown dismissed

Odd that he honored his commitment to App when he started getting P5 offers, then turn around and waste an opportunity. I hope we don't have to line up against him in the future, but hope he finds a solid landing spot and wish him well. lol he never got a p5 offer He never got a P5 offer because he...

Re: If Doug Gillin called you...

Tim Horton, he's spent the past 7 years doing one of the most difficult/high pressure jobs in college football which is being a recruiting coordinator in the SEC West. That would be a huge advantage for us. His familiarity with Malzahns offense would refine and add wrinkles to our current read opti...

Re: If we hire tomorrow

If we hire externally this weekend, I really hope we don't announce until after the NO Bowl, unless the announcement comes with a solid role for Ivey as well. It would seem like we would be cutting his legs out from under him the week of the final game. I mentioned in a that I would like to see him ...

Re: Ledford

OK...so back to the discussion of Ledford. If Ledford gets hired, I'm wondering if DG might be "encouraging" him to retain Ivey as the DC with a nice raise. They would give us continuity on both sides of the ball and it would perhaps allow Ivey to continue expanding his college resume and perhaps a ...

Re: If we hire tomorrow

Rumor has it that we could know as soon as Sunday..... No inside info on the timeline of the search but I was expecting to start hearing Monday or Tuesday. Does anyone know who Satterfield recommended for the job? Just curious but would Satterfield have any input here? I would be surprised if Satte...

Wow...Could there possibly be a WORSE time to start debating Coach Moore? Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I have no delusions about JM being some sort of deity, but come on folks! He brought 23 years of stability to App State and that's why people bring him up right now. We're spoiled by tha...

Re: Great Article on replacement options

I have no idea who would be the best person for the job but I have to think that DG has a good idea of their respective strengths. I believe that Satterfield has provided pretty detailed information on what he thinks would be needed to continue our success as well. We will almost certainly be hirin...

I know folks are upset and I get that but some of these comments make App State Football sound like a cult. I can only assume that those who think App State, and loyalty thereto, is the absolute top of the priority heap all work for App and contribute their tithe to the University, right? Here's a ...

Re: Early: possible replacements?

I don't think there's any way that DG would bring in a coach who would make wholesale system changes. Our roster is built for a 3-4 and we don't have the personnel to go back to a 4-3 right now. On offense, I can't imagine anyone messing with our style of spread. They might even broaden it and do so...

Ivey handling the Interim job for the NO Bowl makes sense. It allows Brown and Ponce to focus on their normal duties and keeps things more BAU, or as much as possible.

Re: Assistants?

No doubt that hiring a new HC is the priority but S&C coach would be a pretty high priority as well. If Iron Mike leaves, we need a strong successor quickly to run off season programs. The lack of a solid S&C program derailed us before and Iron Mike was the solution. Hope that never happens again.

Re: Next Man Up...

It sounds as if there is a lot of energy behind Horton. Here are my questions. Why did he not get the job the first time he interviewed? No regrets obviously, but a question. Why has he not held a head coaching role or at least a coordinator position during his stints at other schools? Valid questi...

Re: Early: possible replacements?

Interesting that we have two on the list who are OL coaches (three if you include Elliott). I wonder if Ledford or Searels could help bring a couple of big'uns with them to help us in those red zone situations. Horton coached at App back in the "pre spread" days at App but Auburn uses a Spread type ...
