Re: Dowell Loggains and his recruiting staff are absolutely phenomenal.
The only reason there is a facade that stars matter is because they give high stars to the usual power programs that are in the playoffs every year based on size, offers, and stats. Indiana has proven so far that those 4-5 stars don't even matter if you got the right fits for your system, good coac...

Re: Recruiting Rewind, Class of 2018
Still a solid class. Of all the QB recruits who have washed out since Thomas, Brown was the one I was most excited to sign. His post-App career makes me think the talent was there. Same for Person; didn't realize how much success he had at UTC.

Re: Recruiting Rewind, Class of 2018
Some liberal use of "GOAT" in these posts; I assume you are using it to mean "great of all time"?

Re: Recruiting Rewind, Class of 2016
6th best class in the SBC, talk about an anti-endorsement of those services. Even that doesn't tell the full story; within our class, the evaluations were awful. That list is in order of highest-rated to lowest. See where most of the production came from? I just wrote on the 2014 rewind thread that...

Re: App State Recruiting Rewind Class of 14
One of my favorite groups because of how foundational the class was during our great FBS transition. This class is the all-time example for the "stars don't matter" argument. Almost all the highest-rated guys flopped, while many of the lowest-rated became multiyear starters and stars. To this day, t...

Re: App State Recruiting Rewind Class of 14
Wasn’t Nikia Cathey killed in some sort of gun violence? Dang, if that's true, I don't remember hearing about it and can't find any record of it online. To answer the OP's question, he did make it to campus and was on App's roster for a couple years or so, but never saw much playing time and I beli...

Re: App State Recruiting Rewind Class of 14
-Montez McGuire WR ** 75 – Appeared in 12 games in ’14 with 1 start. Ranked 3rd on team in Rec & yds. On roster in ’15, Unknown finish to collegiate career. He was a juco, from GMC I believe. So his eligibility was up after '15. Solid player on our early FBS teams. IIRC, he had a long TD reception ...

Re: App State Recruiting Rewind Class of 14
Chandler Greer was just named the head football coach at AC Reynolds HS in Asheville. Meadors was a difference maker. Burning his redshirt halfway through 2014 was the right decision. Opened up the offense more and led to upticks for all WRs, including Malachi Jones, Bobo Beathard and Simms McElFre...

Re: Recruiting Rewind, Class of 2015
Thanks for the breakdown, and the walk down memory lane. Ah, the good ol' days... Quite a foundational group there. It's great to see all those all-conference players, but also funny to remember the ones who you were sure would be studs but just didn't work out. Man, I thought with Mock Adams and Zy...

I can enjoy all the various styles of 'cue - my go to is eastern-style with just a dash of western sauce - but keep any type of slaw far, far away.

Re: Tapp Room closing…
Never visited Tapp Room (a bit after my time and didn't quite seem like my scene), but agree it's sad and frustrating to see local businesses replaced by chains. I also miss Klondike. Never watched baseball there, but went there for live music many times. Used to have lots of good local and regional...

People would be disappointed with 8-4? I would consider that a pleasant surprise.

Re: Dowell Loggains and his recruiting staff are absolutely phenomenal.
Not to further downplay the recruiting success, but it's also worth noting for context that one thing boosting our "ranking" is the shear number of players we're bringing in. Our 58 total commits listed on 247 (HS plus portal) are 4th in the nation and 10+ clear of any other Sun Belt team. Our avera...

Re: Dowell Loggains and his recruiting staff are absolutely phenomenal.
I would rather have a good recruiting class than not but I want to see recruiting class rankings and next year success on the field for G5 schools. I am not convinced these rankings are all they are cracked up to be. I think our fanbase has been so accustomed to not recruiting at a high level on th...

Mistakes happen, but that's two "oops, we sent that email in error" emails in less than a month.

Re: 20 Years Ago Tonight
I was a junior that year, so I’ve been spoiled most of my App life. A couple things I remember (besides Ingle Martin slipping on that wonderful patch of ice): Our team taking the exceptional Jamarcus Russel-led LSU tigers deep into the 4th quarter in Baton Rouge. The absolutely miserable conditions...

Re: 20 Years Ago Tonight
I don't know if fans who weren't around then can really conceive of what it felt like to win that first one. Just a couple years later, we had become the Goliath that dominated FCS, and of course all the FBS success that eventually followed. But prior to that year, we were the always-good, never-the...

Re: Who is the "last great App State player"?
Good question. Answer depends somewhat on your definition of great, but the larger, sadder point is that we have a lot of football players willing to wear our logo for a few months but not many Mountaineers left. That, of course, goes for pretty much every other school too. I did enjoy David Larkins...

Re: Let's pile on Gillin!!!!!
It is my understanding that DG does indeed read social media so maybe he’d getting these suggestions. DG reading social media is one thing. Actually being open to new ideas and taking action on them is another. It would be a tough balance, because you do want your AD to be open to feedback. But soc...

Re: New JMU Head Coach Billy Napier
Put me on the side the thinks the people laughing at JMU for this hire are going to be the ones puking up all the crow they will be eating. Not everyone is cut out for being a major college coach, but there are plenty of examples of those same coaches doing well at lower levels. Florida has not bee...
