Re: Jason Capel hired by big bro at Pitt
If you're going to learn bag-dropping skills, might as well learn from the best.

Re: Dook Falls To Kansas
I'm neither a Duke, nor an ACC fan but I don't really see how Kansas winning is a big surprise....especially this year. Kansas is proud of their use of the "one and done" rule, and currently includes a player who had previously committed to App. This wasn't even one of Duke's stronger teams and the...

20 wins, at or near the top of the league. It's time.

Re: College basketball style of play
Basically the game was ruined as soon as they decided to cut the bottom out of the peach basket.

Re: College basketball style of play
So, the post-up shot in basketball is the equivalent of the run up the middle in football. I guess you have to do it in order to keep the defense honest, but it shouldn't be your bread and butter. That's basically what I get out of this. It's an interesting analysis, but I doubt it can be applied w...

Re: Wes MILLER and UNCG
Miller definitely had some on-the-job learning, as he detailed in a recent News & Record article (don't have the link handy, worth looking up if you're interested). OTOH, he took over midseason as a 29-year-old interim coach. One would assume he'd have a steeper learning curve than, say, a 40-year-o...

Side note, that quote is a few months old. It just resurfaced today because of their big win.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
Has there ever been a player who has done what Neal has done against us? I started following Appalachian basketball as a high school junior in 1961. I've pretty much seen it all since enrolling as a freshman in the fall of 1962. The only other opposing players I can recall who could take control of...

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
Nice start. Had it on my computer at work but the announcers (well, mainly the color guy) were so bad I muted that and turned on the App radio crew even though they were probably a full minute ahead of the video feed.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
If we play UTA, it’s debatable whether rest would be an advantage for them. You hear all the time how the team that’s already played a game is in better rhythm in those situations. We’ll see (hopefully). And statistically speaking the thing about it being hard to beat a team three times (or, more to...

Re: Matt McMahon
26-5 is a 12 seed? Give or take a line, yes. You disagree? I’ve watched less ten non-App basketball games this year, but maybe the OVC is weaker if their five loss team gets a 12 seed. That’s also where ULL projects should they win the Sun Belt tourney. For comparison, the 30 win Little Rock team t...

Re: Matt McMahon
Congratulations to Matt. I remember the first time he hit the floor , as a player .Overachiever and that continues . As to the SoCon , I see four teams that would beat us soundly outside of an "in the zone"shooting night. Good players , well coached, little depth. WCU got blown out last night and we...

Re: Matt McMahon
Back to the guy whose name is in the subject line - McMahon has Murray State in the tournament after winning the OVC Tournament today. At 26-5, they’ll probably get about a 12 seed and be a handful for somebody.

Re: Cobb and Elliot putting together nice football schedule
If Georgia State scheduling a few football games doesn't turn into occasion for a five-page thread arguing about Charlie Cobb's tenure as App's AD, I'm going to really be disappointed in this board.

For anyone curious about more modern rankings, we're 218 in kenpom. It's modest, but would be our highest ranking since Capel's first year (212). We were 274 last year. Last time we were actually any good - in 2010 - we were 109.
ULL is 54, btw.

Re: 2018 FB schedule coming out Tuesday
Setting up the possible de facto division championship game vs. Troy.
I actually like that we're playing stAte on a Tuesday rather than a Thursday. It means no short week before or after, plus a lot less TV competition.
