Re: Observations 5 games in (long)

Agreed, and now my (maybe slightly premature) thoughts are that we could very easily lose him to a buyout by a P5 earlier than we would like. But, trust DG, unless he’s gone soon too.

Re: Defense and Roof Appreciation

cool to see Jordon Earle (first game this year?) and the walk-on Blackstock with huge plays Perhaps you missed it, but Coach Drink announced several weeks ago that Blackstock had earned a scholarship. I saw that. I should have written “former walk on”. Either way, it’s really neat to see him and fo...

Perspective

Was just at a bar and over heard an Elon alum bragging that his alma mater almost beat N.C. A&T, knocked off the Citadel, and beat Richmond. I couldn’t resist a chuckle. We’ve come a long way in a short time.

I was think of the 2005 Nationl title game as well. Hunter was a beast that game, of course so was Murrell and the rest of our d.
Murrell was the most explosive hitter coming off of the line that I can remember at App.

Re: Drink’s Press Conference

I think the reason he didn't have defensive staff there was for a couple reasons. 1) he wanted to take responsibility as the HC. He knows everyone is upset and didn't want to hang his staff out to dry. I admire it, and he is taking responsibility and ownership of all his team; and I'm sure he wante...

I remember lots of complaints about Nate Woody when he brought his new scheme as well, but I don’t think the d was this bad.

Re: Great Ambassador, Kendall Lamm

Yesterday my 17 year old son came out of the bookstore and said "Guess who I saw?" I said who? Kendall Lamm! Sure enough he had not only seen him, but Kendall was very nice and took his picture with my son. I am always proud of our program for recruiting young men like this. I imagine he is very bu...

Re: Fan Fest 2019

Agreed, spirited, enthusiastic players and Roof seemed to be the most enthusiastic coach from my perspective. The concessions ran out of everything (which I’m sure wasn’t much for this event) within 30 minutes when cold bottled water was needed. I wish I would have at least carried in my boys’ wate...

People it is true, my goodness why can't you believe posts on this board over hoopdirt which gets the information from people.
Because we enjoy speculating about speculation. It’s what happens on these forums.

Re: Assistant Hoops Coaches

from hoopdirt today...

It sounds like new Appalachian State head coach Dustin Kerns will retain current Mountaineers associate head coach Jason Allison. The former VMI assistant has been on the App State bench for the past five seasons.

Re: Young to Va Tech

I didn't intend to start a rumor, I was just speculating since Kerns spent some years with Young at Wofford. I also figured that the associate HC there would have a pretty decent shot at the job. Here's the latest from Hoopdirt... Early names at Wofford include current Terriers associate head coach ...

Re: Young to Va Tech

Hope Kerns sticks with us and doesn’t jump to Wofford I don’t see this being remotely likely since we’ve already hired him, can’t see him leaving like that. Good thing we already hired him though. If he had his choice between both I wonder which he would have gone with. It was a different situation...

Re: Basketball DK Edition

not sure about specific strategies, but if his work at Presbyterian is any indication, we will shoot a lot of 3's, share the ball and take care of the ball (assist-turnover ratio should improve), much like Wofford. I'm looking forward to seeing Kern's offense come to fruition on the court, although ...

FWIW, Allison is now listed as the only assistant coach on the appstatesports basketball page. All others have been removed. I'm not sure if it's a sign that he's staying, but it's interesting.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns

We are a football school. The expectations are high. We are at the top of our conference. We go 8-4 in football and it is viewed as a down season. We go 24-8 in basketball and that’s the best thing since sliced bread. The expectations are different, plain and simple, at least right now. I’m happy t...
