If you were an assistant coach under Carlos Somoano, I think you would want to get out of Chapel Hill too. Carlos' personality is drier than a James Bond Martini.

I have heard a decision has been reached on the next MSOC Head Coach. The announcement could come as early as tomorrow or later on this week. Stay tuned in.

Re: MSOC Head Coach Search

Sorry, I have been out of town for the past couple of weeks. The committee had over 300 inquiries about the position. There were 52 resumes received by December 11th. I do not know how many total resumes were received by the committee before the cut off. Don't judge a program by the number of resume...

MSOC Head Coach Search

I have heard that 52 applicants have applied for the App St MSOC Head Coaching Position as of the end of last week. Personally, I find that encouraging that there has been that many coaches interested in the position. The AD should also be pleased with the interest shown and they should be able to f...

MSOC Head Coach Matt Nelson contract not renewed

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University has elected to not renew the contract of men’s soccer head coach Matt Nelson, director of athletics Doug Gillin announced on Tuesday. “I thank Coach Nelson for all that he has done for Appalachian State University over the past eight years,” Gillin said. “W...

Re: Tourney Semis: #4 Seed ASU v. #1 Seed Hartwick 6:30 Ted Mac

I made the trip to Boone last night to see the game. I want to share some of the things that I saw. App played well overall but the same issues that have hurt them all year hurt them last night. The defensive third for App was quick, tough and challenged Hartwick's attack all night. They got burned ...

Re: MSoc in Sun Belt Soccer Tourney--In Progress--Ted Mac Field

When you start 4 freshmen, 3 of those in the all important holding mid and attacking mid positions, it will be ugly. We were given a gift tonight from NJIT. I don't think Harwick will be so giving tomorrow night. Experience means everything when tournament time rolls around. But, anything can happen.

Re: MSoc Ques for firemoose, Tdog, AA and/or others w/knowledge our team

His injury is called Functional Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome. This is where you actually have to much leg muscle and it restricts the blood flow to the lower legs. From my understanding, he was misdiagnosed by the team doctor last fall and had to go to his personal doctor back home. Austin w...

I wasn't able to make the game but I hoped to stream it. It also failed with me. I was able pick up the live stats of the game. The game turned out to be another disappointment.

Re: MSoc @ Ga South 7 PM Sat. ESPN3 Eagle/Erk Park Complex

Sorry for spelling Gillin's name wrong in the previous post. Yes, I think Gillin would want to save the program and he would also want it to excel. There is to much history in App St MSOC to let it die on the vine. More money in the program would be a good start to where we can compete with the othe...

Re: MSoc @ Ga South 7 PM Sat. ESPN3 Eagle/Erk Park Complex

We can all speculate at this point about what is going to happen in the conference and MSOC but we all agree this program needs a new direction, new blood in the coaching position and a rock solid commitment from the Admin. I am optimistic that when the season is over Mr. Gillen will evaluate MSOC a...

Re: MSoc @ # 20 NC State 7 PM, Tonite Dail Soccer Stadium

ASU66, I agree with most everything you said. I drove all the way to Raleigh to watch and it's frustrating watching this team make the same defensive mistakes over and over again. Specifically in the midfield area. NC State scored their two goals on failures of the holding midfielders to track back ...

App must never be over confident when we play these "RPI Bottom Feeders". Anybody can can beat anybody on any given day. This happened yesterday at UNCA. Coastal Carolina, future Sun Belt Conference member and ranked #6 in the country, was stunned and I do mean stunned by UNCA 3-2 in Asheville yeste...

Re: MSoc @ Winthrop 7 PM Eagle Field, Rock Hill, SC

I'm going to say it now and im pissed. Clean house and find me a coach who is worth a tinkers damn. Pick up the phone, call Hank and ask for a list of hungry dynamic coaches or former players who can put us back in the conversation. I understand where you are coming from. I agree there needs to be ...

Re: MSoc (3-1) v. Longwood (2-1) 6:00 PM, TedMac Field

Hapapp, All of the younger Academies in Europe are taught this formation. They sometimes start with a 4-3-3 for the kids to start with and then change to the 4-4-2 once they master incorporating the 4th midfielder. The premier league and la liga league will play a 4-4-2 but if you have a couple of s...

Re: MSoc (3-1) v. Longwood (2-1) 6:00 PM, TedMac Field

I agree with everyone on their views but I would like to add a few of my on. The coaches are the ones that fill the schedule with the coordination from the other teams. It wasn't wise to play this many games in to few a days. This doesn't allow the body time to heal and recharge for the next. Any go...

Re: MSOC to host 2015 SB Tournament

I agree doublea that the scheduling could have been better. Nelson could have scheduled higher caliber teams to get ready for conference play. NC State looks to be the best team but they even had a bad season last year. They didn't finish high in the conference and didn't make the NCAA Tournament. W...
