Re: App BB @ NC Central Eagles, Wed., Durham "The DAP"

I try to keep tabs on the Metro Atlantic. Niagara, for instance, plays their first 19 baseball games on the road this season. Their first home game isn't until March 30th. Hard to fathom, but that's life up that way. Niagara has fielded a baseball team since 1885. They luv their b-ball. Gotta love t...

Re: App BB @ NC Central Eagles, Wed., Durham "The DAP"

Just for historical perspective, we split games with NCCU last year, winning 6-0 in Durham and losing 6-7 in Boone. I hope we're able to get the game in but the weather does put that in question. Yeah, I know about NCCU and last season. It's a little amusing that we complain about our cold weather ...

App BB v. Manhattan Jaspers (1-2) Fri. thru Sun. Smith Stadium

Ditto: From NCCU thread, only worse

Boone forecast: http://www.booneweather.com/Forecast/Boone

Depending on Manhattan's travel arrangements, a wet DH on Sunday might be possible. If they play, the Apps will get tested by a strong Manhattan (Metro Atlantic) program.

It's $10 for reserved. I couldn't find a GA ticket price.

The McMahon screwup reminds me of when we passed on Fisher DeBerry a few decades back. Bingo! Right on target! Instead of DeBerry we got Working; instead of McMahon we got Capel...forming the two most costly and most embarrassing HR decisions in App State Athletics history! There have been others w...

Re: New Hire

This is a general reply to several posts just to slightly steer the discussion, FWIW... Do your research and you'll find that Fox started at $150K. It's a matter of record. No way Cobb way payin' a newbie $200K. He was still trying to recover his "reserve fund" from payin' Fancher's buyout. Oh, and ...

Re: Was Bobby Cremins Camp The Best in the State?

When Apke first came to Appalachian, Ralph Patterson ran the camps. The camp at Campbell was pretty good, too. One of the worst was at Davidson. Speaking of Ralph Patterson , I jokingly referred to "Brooks Brothers" in reference to Furman football coaches a couple of days ago. Then Ralph's name com...

Re: RIP Frank Robinson

Hall of Famer and former triple crown winner Frank Robinson has passed away. He hit the only home run to ever land outside the old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. He and Johnny Unitas were my first two childhood sports heroes. Just read that. Wasn't he the first MLB player to win a series in both le...

Re: Another one bites the dust

Go hire a young former alum and have him coach the running backs. Hey 88, I bet you remember the Furman football "dynasty" in the SoCon (1985-2005). During those days, their program essentially hired only Furman insiders or the cronies of insiders and for 20 or so years--won seven conference champi...

Re: MBB Vs. ULM @ 2pm on 2Feb19 at The HCC

In any one-point win, just about every player in the rotation of the winning team can be singled out for "the" single play that won the game for the good guys. There were several in today's game. For instance, take away just one of Justin Forrest's treys and it's a two-point win for ULM or take away...

Re: MBB Vs. ULM @ 2pm on 2Feb19 at The HCC

In years past this is the part of the season the basketball team wins a couple followed by a lopsided home loss in front of the largest crowd of the season. Would love to be proven wrong! That Saturday afternoon "fade" goes all the way back to the Houston Fancher era. That trend needs to end tomorr...
