Re: Pat Dye: He Once Called Us a Sleeping Giant

Dye was a professional colleague and close friend of former App head coach Jim Brakefield. Dye tried every tool in his little black bag to get App to muscle up facilities and athletic fundraising and go with the Pirates into D-I when the SoCon was being relegated to D-IAA by the NCAA. To be fair, Ap...

Re: NEZ Update Query

Ok...I have to step in here because I'm reading a bunch of uneducated guesses at the reason for the shoring towers (or columns if you will). The company I work for was called in a couple months ago to add shoring under the cantilevered seating section due to the load it was imposing on the structur...

App State students, some athletes, lead hundreds on a march through Boone

BOONE — The five of them stood there, at the end of a busy two hours, engulfed by roars. In just a couple of days, a small group of Appalachian State students organized a protest that brought hundreds out around downtown Boone today. It became part of the nationwide outcry of the killing of George F...

Re: App cutting multiple sports

Most of you may be aware of this, but just in case you didn't know- All of the student athlete's affected by yesterday's cuts will have their scholarships honored. Furthermore, if the athlete wishes to transfer to a school that still has the sport, our university will assist them in finding a new s...

Re: App cutting multiple sports

It hasnt been a week, it seems, that several tennis signings were announced. I would guess some folks are now thrust into finding a place to land. Having had two kids play soccer in college, I can only imagine how I would react if this happened to them. All of my circuit breakers have been surge-sp...

Re: Yosef Club and FAA

In light of the recent news the past few days I want to encourage everyone to be sure to join the Yosef Club if you're not already a member. If you are a member encourage others who are not a member to join. The Former Athletes' Association is a part of Yosef as well. The FAA gets $30 of your YC me...

Re: NEZ work today

They'll be four of them, each with a Mountaineer great on them, a Mt. Rushmore of App football. Well that's what I'd do. Settle, Hackett, Edwards and Coakley? Trade out Settle for Coach Moore? Perhaps, but Settle was something special. For years his was the only number to be retired by Appalachian....

Re: Memorial Day

According to DOD, north of 1 million Americans have died in uniform while protecting our homeland and our freedom...plus...somewhere north of 80,000 more are still classified as missing in action, lost at sea, POW or other high-risk categories. That's 1.1 mil dear and precious lives given (WWII to t...

Re: UNC and NCSU announce plans

Has it been confirmed that heat and humidity in fact make a difference? I ask because Latin America and Brazil are seeing a surge in new cases. Sadly, those countries are in no way prepared for what they're in for. We (USA) have already responded to Brazil's SOS with a shipment of medical ventilato...

Re: The 5 Greatest Rock Songs

Such lists evoke as many deeply personal memories, experiences, emotions and values as there are people who have lived or are now living in the so-called "rock era." Polling such a "top five" is somewhat akin to herding New York City's population of feral cats. Can't be done!

Re: 2020 Transfer Commit

It's my view that the jury is still out on the journeyman, Almonacy. He played only sparingly in 2016-17 and 2017-18 at D-I Stony Brook . In 2018-19 he was a student at D-II LIU-CW Post (Brookville) but apparently DNP. He transferred over to D-II Southern New Hampshire for the just completed 2019-20...

The bids for the turf replacement came in much lower than expected. I must have been so hyped up about that GREAT news that I was having a celebration...

Any chance ETSU looks towards Kerns? He’s from that area. He and his family were really repping the Black & Gold on the Yosef Club tour tonight. GO APPS!! Could ETSU really pay enough to attract him? I can't imagine their basketball budget is that much more than Apps. The Bucs averaged 4,000+ atten...

Wake's roster is taking an apparent six-or-more player hit with the transition to S.Forbes as the new head coach. At least four current Deacs have entered the transfer portal and two of four early Deac signees have requested and received releases from their letters-of-intent. As late as it is and wi...
