Re: MBB @ Arkansas State, Thursday 1/23 9pm EST

2-27 from three, 7%. Feel like the law of averages caught up with us on top of solid defense. We shoot 35% on average, but the last five games it was: Texas St 55% CCU 44% JMU 59% ODU 27% JMU 50% Yeah, our 3 point shooting is similar. We'll have a couple good games in a row then have a really off g...

Re: MBB @ Arkansas State, Thursday 1/23 9pm EST

GG's fellas. You guys have a hell of a team. Difference in the game is we shut down the 3 ball and forced bad shots. Still, as poorly as you shot, the fact that you didn't lose by 20 is a testament to how good your defense is. If not for Kobe Julian in the first half, we're probably down 7-10 points...

Re: MBB @ Arkansas State, Thursday 1/23 9pm EST

Yah agreed. Defense is going to make or break this. A high scoring affair probably doesn't go Apps way. Arkansas St consistently scores more then App has given up in any game this season. Two things that are interesting to me is there impressive offensive rebounding & FT contribution. Both areas Ap...

Re: MBB @ JMU, Saturday 1/18 4pm

I could be wrong but think they retained almost their entire team from last year. They had some key injuries early this season but are healthy now. At home on ESPN2, they will be tough to beat. Our defense will have to continue to play great, but we’ll need better offensive production than how we f...

Re: MBB @ JMU, Saturday 1/18 4pm

Chief, thanks for coming over here. How do you think you guys will handle our bigs? I assume a high scoring game would benefits you as well. You guys aren't the only team in the league who has a 6'9 6'10 type player who is good off the dribble and likes to play out on the wings and dare people to c...

Re: MBB @ JMU, Saturday 1/18 4pm

They love the three, we will be tested. Yes, its an addiction. Sometimes to our own detriment because we'll see a team like South who just does nothing but play a packed in zone and dare us to shoot from outside. We're actually not as good outside as we were last year overall, but we have a true sh...

Re: MBB vs Arkansas State, Sunday, March 10, 6 p.m. ET, ESPN+, Pensacola Bay Center, Pensacola, Fla., Sun Belt semis

Didn't we lose Huntley either last year or the previous year in the tournament? Did the Arky coach play possum a week ago and basically give us that game? Pretty sure I saw something about Ark State not having 2 of their players last week. Did we play possum? No. Plan for the first meeting always w...

Re: MBB vs Arkansas State, Sunday, March 10, 6 p.m. ET, ESPN+, Pensacola Bay Center, Pensacola, Fla., Sun Belt semis

A win today would go a long way towards an NIT opportunity. And wins today and tomorrow should put us on the 12 line in the Dance. Go App! Any idea why the conference regular season champion no longer receives an auto bid into the NIT if they don't win the conference tournament? Because the SEC and...

Re: MBB vs Arkansas State, Sunday, March 10, 6 p.m. ET, ESPN+, Pensacola Bay Center, Pensacola, Fla., Sun Belt semis

As mentioned, we did rest many of our top players for longer minutes than usual last week since the game meant nothing on our end, and we were pretty banged up going in. They'll all play today, the only concern is Caleb Fields, who looked off all day yesterday, and sat most of the 2nd half. With lea...

Re: MBB vs Arkansas stAte, Friday, March 1, 2024, 6:30 p.m., ESPN+, Holmes Sweet Holmes, finale, #1 Defense v #1 Offense

Got to be tough to play in filthy Conway and then have to play up in the beautiful mountains two days later. Arkansas State is as hot as us right now, but we at least have the advantage of being 9 deep and having a home stand. Its the toughest possible road trip in the conference. One game at sea l...

Also, TDog, we run an 8-10 man rotation now. I think you are missing Hicks, who missed most of the season to injury but returned two weeks ago. He now starts in place of Dominguez, Dominguez, Julian Lual, and Avery Felts come off the bench regularly. Every single one of those 8 players has had multi...

Re: MBB vs Arkansas stAte, Friday, March 1, 2024, 6:30 p.m., ESPN+, Holmes Sweet Holmes, finale, #1 Defense v #1 Offense

This is the kind of team that can cause problems for us. They're quick and shoot from the outside, neutralizing some of our defensive strength. I can see some matchup problems for us on defense. A matchup of the league's best offense v. the league's best defense. Should be a good one. We certainly ...

Re: MBB vs Arkansas stAte, Friday, March 1, 2024, 6:30 p.m., ESPN+, Holmes Sweet Holmes, finale, #1 Defense v #1 Offense

Does ArkSt take it easy since they have 4 seed wrapped up and can't improve? Unsure. Both of our top players in Caleb Fields and Izayah Nelson are banged up right now and could use a rest. Fields has been playing with a pulled Groin for a couple weeks. In every sense of the word, he needs a rest, b...

Congrats to the other ASU on a title that was a long time coming. I am glad JMU didn't get the 1 seed because they are already cocky enough, No matter what happens Friday, two teams are playing in Boone that have had seasons worth celebrating. The Red Wolves are playing great ball right now. Should...

Re: Butch Jones new coach at Ark St.

This happened insanely fast. The quiet rumor in Jonesboro had been the school and Blake had been working on a way to amicably separate for a while, and we waived his buyout so Utah State could come in. Makes me think we already did a lot of the vetting on this before we even announced Anderson's dep...

Re: Hi Everybody

It bit us versus UNCC and Marshall. Well we do it every time, while wrinkling in squib kicks and other kicks we want returned. I think we've kicked it into the end zone less than 5 times this year, mostly during the UCA Game where there was a 20 mph sustained wind and everything with the wind trave...

Re: Hi Everybody

I can’t stand the short kick on kickoffs, especially with a defense like we have, blows my mind. Our fans hate it too, but statistically, there's no difference between booting it out of the end zone and pooch kicking it and having it fair caught at the 27. One gives you a chance at recovering a fum...

Re: Hi Everybody

And, maybe kick a field goal when necessary with success. Our 14 year old kicker is certainly capable of booting one through the uprights if needed. But given we're often having to match TD for TD with teams, we don't see him much outside of extra point attempts As for whoever mentioned kickoffs ea...
