Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
I expected some turnover but I’m pretty surprised to see so many in it so quickly. I think everything still depends on Kerns staying. I think it’s quite possible we see one or more of these guys back on the team next season if he does. In all likelihood moving forward you’re gonna see more and more ...

Re: NIT
It's cool that the selection committee is being more forthright with updates. Looking at the various Bubble Watch's and then matching up with what the committee is saying about actual teams under consideration and its pretty clear there are a number of major conference "bubble" teams that aren't eve...

Great job with the win. My biggest fear was some random player going off but team still pulled through. This team is deep and looked very focused coming out at tip. For all the handwringing about FTs (myself included & justified) the whole team crushed it 23/27, damn good. Turnover margin was the bi...

Re: Basketball Scores of interest Final 2 weeks
Oregon St beating Utah last night was certainly helpful for JMU's edge case. They could very well pass Utah in the Net Rankings with today's update. They could still pretty conceivably move up to a Quad 2 loss if they can grab another win or two.

Hopefully with Apps games starting on a Saturday more fans make it down, especially with the opportunity to catch two games over a quick overnight trip.

I really feel like the first game may end up being as tough or tougher then the final simply because I think App's depth could play a bigger part in the second/third games whereas both teams will have fresh legs on Saturday.

Honestly I agree it's great material for the posterboard. This team has shown no let up but can't hurt to have a bit more gas on the fire.

Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
At the moment the team has a higher KenPom ranking then the 2007 team that was in the bubble conversation. Actually one fewer loss, but only that one gnarly loss to Elon that arguably ended their bid opportunity.
That team actually went 5-2 in Quad 1 victories go figure!

Re: SB BB Coach of the Year
While on the subject of post-season awards, who is our team’s Player of the Year? I could make a convincing argument for five players. I agree with Saint. I would go with Gregory as our player of the year. It would be tight though because I could see flipping to Harcum or Spillers or Abson if they ...

Re: JMU on bubble but not us?
A couple teams have played their way off the bubble this past week and looking at some other bubble teams I still think JMU gets in if they win out & lose in Sunbelt Final to someone other then App (just since silly shit like that is an easy out for the committee). On a happier note Grand Canyon's l...

Re: MBB at Marshall, Saturday, Feb. 24, 6 p.m. ET, ESPN2, Cam Henderson Center, 3rd Avenue, Huntington, W.V., ew, blegh
Good results last night. Aside from the win I'm hoping the team comes home in one piece. Marshall has been playing really physical... somewhat dirty and I'm concerned about getting banged up before the tournament. At least now with the double-bye the team has a full week off (which hopefully doesn't...

Re: JMU on bubble but not us?
JMU doing what it can against their remaining opponents. They moved up to #50 with this most recent win and could quite possibly be in the 40s~ of net by tournament time. ESPN Bubble Watch does a decent enough job forecasting possible bids and JMU is sitting with a group of 20 looking at about 8 bid...

Re: MBB vs Louisiana, Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, 4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+, Holmes Center, Bobby Marlin searches again for Nemo
Big game to keep on track for the #1 seed and also makes it that much more likely that ULL is the #4 (instead of JMU god forbid). I believe that if App got lucky then they could lock the #1 seed as soon as next Saturday (presuming App wins all three and Troy drops two). App could be looking at somet...

Yah a few missed FTs & couple fewer TOS and App would be up a fair bit.
Defensively looking decent but really need to win the rebounding battle. Marshall has done a good job tipping out.

Re: JMU on bubble but not us?
The only scenario where I see JMU getting an at-large is winning out + losing to Troy/ULL in the Final. If App goes 3-0 against them I don't see any scenario where the committee extends them an invite.

Re: App Receiving Votes…No Longer Just One
Seems fairly obvious that the only way a good mid major like App can safely get an at large bid is to schedule (if possible) and beat 2-3 good power conference teams. Those couple of glorified scrimmage games are meaningless other than giving us a tuneup or 2. The in state peer games (UNCW, A and Q...

When you start comparing the rating systems….. they all have pluses and minuses…. The NCAA “says” they used the NET system… only to sort the teams…. Kenpom is a predictive model …. The selection committee essentially meets twice and that’s why they have to go through a ton of data in a short time… ...
