Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

Would you list the 11? I can't keep up with who is here and who is gone. Just a list of who we expect to have next year at this point. It sounds like we may be going small next year. CJ Huntley (6'11), Anthony Alston (6'2), Michael Marcus Jr (6'9), Myles Tate (6'0), Jerquarius Stanback (6'6), Camer...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

That’s not small. Young yes , small no. We are still in the hunt …, Agree. We are good enough but if we could sign one more guy who is 6'10 or taller then we would really be stacked. I would love to have 4 guys who are 6'9 or bigger. Kobe Julien to Arkansas State is a big deal. I would say they are...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

Was he a problem? Not happy with minutes I assume? He was a PG, a Freshman PG at that, and led the team in shots taken per minute played. He put up .46 shots per minutes played. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but the next highest was .37. Gregory was .33 per minute for comparison. Many of them ill ...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

We need some proven size. Huntley (if returning) and Marcus Jr. isn’t going to cut it. Luke Wilson as well. But, yeah, I agree. Proven bigs from portal or juco. Yup. So we’re essentially replacing Abson, Spillers, and Hayes with Wilson and Marcus Jr at the moment. Need more! We definitely need one ...

Re: Hold on to your hats ….

You shouldn’t need a DEI program to do the right thing. Bingo. Accept the very best students based on qualifications and hire the best people based on how they fit your culture and their qualifications. An entire department to make you do that is a complete waste of money because it should be done ...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

Yes ! We’re going all the way ! Or to Pensacola…. There are a few D2 players who put up big numbers and have good size on this list: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d2/current/individual/136 I wonder if any of these have entered the portal? and are D1 talent players? There is a player fro...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

Abson visiting Michigan and Xavier this weekend. Georgia thinks they have him. Miami got a visit too. Florida to Michigan is farrrrr from home. Hope we get to play one of those and beat them. The Butler message board was not tracking Tate when he left to go to App or worried about where he went. Th...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)

TODAY I give my ALL --- these guys gave their ALL for an entire season - to heights I never thought we would see - They have moved on but left behind a very special basketball season. I wish them all well and you guys should as well - Exactly. I wish them good luck but they have moved on. I am than...

Re: Hold on to your hats ….

I hope we get a good one..but IF it’s a too far left or too far right leaning one I hope the student body and faculty en masse walks out. Wouldn’t that be something? Give the big ole finger to the legislature. If it’s far left, the faculty will celebrate That is true. We also have a bunch of facult...

Re: Another Portal Loss

And there lies the Catch 22. Say Spellman steps up and has a great year. Are we having this same conversation next year? It’s the world we live in. We are never going to have the money to compete with these P5s so I have fully expected it. I just hope we are able to get some good ones from FCS, lik...

Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion

I don’t know that the plan was for Wilson to start in 2026. It would make sense I suppose but I wouldn’t count on it. Hard to plan two years in advance but I just know most HS QBs in their head have a goal of starting by their redshirt sophomore year. It would be nice to hit on a HS QB and was hopi...

Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion

Wilson has been on campus for all of four months so his story isn’t written yet. But I don’t know that I would pull the trigger in assuming that he is the guy in 2025. The plan was for Wright to backup and start next year so I would imagine that will be the thought process with the next man up on F...

Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion

Who expects Wilson to start next year? I have heard that Wilson is working hard and he expects to earn the job. Maybe our staff does not expect it but it is still early and in this new era a QB is just not going to sit the bench for 3 years to wait anymore. I remember that the staff was nervous abo...

Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion

How much time is allocated to the development of the 4th string QB? Wright was listed as projected second string after the spring so I am guessing the QB 3-deep now is Aguilar, Hernandez, and Wilson. Correct? Estep might be QB2 based off practice squad play. We will find a portal guy though. Only 2...

Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion

Boy, he sure didn't last long on the mountain. You would think that a kid that spent 3 years at Texas would have come to Boone in much better position to compete (for a backup position) than what evidently occurred. I mean, Sark is supposed to be a qb whisperer type of oc and coach. Of course, now ...
