Re: Men's Basketball Coaching Search
Lutz had has chance back in 2014 when Cobb was literally begging him to take the job. He told us to pack sand. Take the highway, Bobby, and take all you can hold. I believe those are the words of the song. Not how that went down but it does not matter now - Yes, that was how it went down, Junior, a...

Re: Men's Basketball Coaching Search
Just watched the presser. I am optimistic. He says all the right things and seems like a good dude. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with our program. Also, I will say Congrats dude, and welcome to App Mrs. Kerns! Very attractive lady! Kerns did mention one thing which I've been saying for ...

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
Though I feel this is an underwhelming hire, I like it slightly better than the hires of Capel and Fox for two reasons: 1. Unlike Capel and Fox, Kerns does have some head coaching experience albeit minimal. 2. Unlike Capel and Fox, Kerns has coached at more than one school and therefore it follows t...

Re: Men's Basketball Coaching Search
Some of you that have been around as long as I have should know better than to group Cobb in with Laney! If you were around during the DARK AGES of Laney you would realize that Cobb did a fantastic job moving us from the middle ages into a new world. Many of the problems we face today have, quite f...

Kerns will do okay if he's half the coach Bobby Dodd and Buck Van Huss were.

I don't like orange soda. Reminds me too much of Tennessee, Clemson, and Syracuse.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
He improved it, from nothing to post season wins. His successor will either complete the turn around or he won't. What you saw from Kerns at Presbyterian was an improvement. They could easily fall back to 9-20 next season. That's no turn around.

Re: MBB: Welcome Coach Dustin Kerns
We just had App's old beat writer Brant Wilkerson-New (now covers ACC for the Greensboro paper) on our sports talk show...I asked him his initial thoughts on the hire. He said "here's a guy who knows how to turn around a program that has no real history and be successful". I would say that Kerns im...

Re: SBC MBB: Scott Cross to Troy
Great hire by the Troy AD. He showed his fellow conference ADs how to conduct a search for new basketball coach.

It's always nice to beat the Suckaneers. Don't matter if it's football, softball, or pitching horse shoes.

Re: Fox fired
The more names I see, the more I think I prefer someone from the "former HC who's won at a mid-major before getting fired from a power school" pool. I'll include Lutz in that even though he doesn't technically fit the description. It's true there are plenty of good assistants and D2 coaches out the...

Re: Fox fired
The Buzzard was a Hornets executive (or were they the Bobcats then?) back when we hired him the second time. It also wouldn't surprise me if he returned to Boone for a third stint provided that Gillin went to Charlotte and groveled for the Buzzard to return. As punishment for ditching us for UNCW we...

Re: Fox fired
Ethan Joyce released 10 names of *potential* candidates, or people he thinks we should call. Well 9, and our beloved Matt McMahon (who we all want, but also know he ain’t coming). Most of these names have been mentioned here. 1. Tim Craft (G-W) 2. Bart Lundy (Queens) 3. Kevin McGeehan (Campbell) 4....

Re: Fox fired
So far, I haven't seen any candidate that moves me more than Scott Cross, currently an assistant at TCU, and a former head coach at UTA. Good record at a place that had little or no tradition before he took over and knows the Sun Belt. I don't care if he's from Tejas. So was Jerry Moore. My second ...

Re: Fox fired
Considering our record the past five years, the fact that he's recruited many of our players could also be a good argument for not retaining Allison. That makes no sense whatsoever considering the talent has improved practically every year. But the record didn't improve. That's the first thing they...
