Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
The buyout is only $350k It needs to at least be raised to 1M if we get a new deal with him. That would likely keep a mid-major from plucking him but would still not stop a power program, which is fine. That would require a new contract. I know and I think we should be working on one. The current b...

Re: 2024 Roster Updates
Maybe this is one aspect of having early spring practice that helps us. We know our open spots early. Whether two latest entries in the portal were going to be starters or not, they contributed with playing time in the past. With early spring practice, we know what needs are before some other teams ...

Re: Who left first, players or coach Kerns?
I REALLY REALLY hope this is the case but I have my worries that athletics will not open the pocketbook to that level for basketball. I hope and pray I am wrong about this and we give him a raise to 800 or 900 K a year. Just don't see it happening here. If Gillin believes that Kerns can bring a tit...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
It's not really about "the all" IMO
Take App. St. for example, it is about potentially losing Abson and Spillers as examples, they may get paid and it impacts App. St.
$50k is hypothetical example. Some on this board mY have changed jobs for 10k more at some point in their career.

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
When did a 4 yr scholarship become worthless? I thought that was the value ("compensation") that the student athlete received for participating in sports? 99+ percent of college athletes never make it to professional level so the MAIN reason a student plays is for the free education. That would cur...

Re: Who left first, players or coach Kerns?
Charleston job is now open. at least 1 mill a year salary. Big sport on campus. Back in SC. Keeps a tighter pulse on the Clemson job for one day. Lets be real his phone will ring about this job. seems like I remember hearing that Kerns talked to them a couple years ago before Kelsey landed the job....

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Who knows, maybe these guys asked Kerns if it is ok to test the portal with the understanding they will return if they don't get a big offer. Sounds weird, but the entire approach to talent retention has been turned upside down and what was normal in the past might not be normal in the future. I th...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Let's see where these guys end up. If they go to ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, or SEC programs good for them. Not much we could have done. BUT if they end up a mid-majors, that says something about our program. Based on talent of Abson and Spillers I 100% expect them to be in one of those confere...

Re: Original NIL Discussion
Whether App St bball is a profitable financially is a separate discussion as whether the student athletes should get paid. I actually think the athletes should get paid given the amount of work put in. I just would like some controls around transferring...which the court system seems to disagree wi...

Bad day at blackrock! I am an alumni, 2 degrees, season ticket holder FB & BB since early 90"s, and Yosef donor for 30 years. I have put a lot of effort in getting to know the BB players and parents trying to make them feel special and wanted building relationships. I know this is not the same as M...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Serious question: If a player is receiving NIL money from a school and he decides to hit the portal, does the school have the right to demand reimbursement from the player? Not receiving the money from the school. Maybe the secret/solution to this is to write NIL Agreements much the same as contrac...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
I feel as though I'm losing a part of my life that brings me joy. Appalachian athletics has provided an outlet from the outside noise for over two decades personally. Isn't getting difficult to stay invested at the current rate. Same here, Saint. Although disappointed with the changes and turnover ...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Assuming we keep Kerns, I believe he will be successful in building a roster like this year m I agree but man is it going to be difficult as we're probably losing 80% of points, rebounding, assists, blocks and minutes. Gregory Huntley Abson Spillers And the season hasn't even ended. I feel you dude...
