Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Ultimately the FT shooting is what sunk our season according to some. Kerns could not take it another year so he cut the whole team. He's been searching the net to find guys who can consistently shoot 90%. The approach will be to run and gun and get to the line 40 times a game- 36 makes will be wha...

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Welcome to the world of capatilism. Athletics style. Need to implement contracts for players with consequences if others want to “buy them out”, non-competes, etc. if they want to be treated like employees not students so be it. Sad day. Understand the sentiment but here is the rub with contracts. ...

What if I told you sports were a distraction for the masses to avoid contemplating items that are important.

I think you'll see stadium continue the trend to a larger percentage of seats as premium vs. general as the higher donors will still go to games and willing to pay.
The college sports experience will change dramatically over the next generation.

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
So as a followup question for discussion (that may create a firestorm)... In the new environment, how much emphasis should be placed on high school recruiting??? In mid-major basketball, less and less each year in this era. Surprised at the freshman leaving giving the upperclassmen entering the por...

Re: Who left first, players or coach Kerns?
What incentive do fans of power four programs, that aren't financially invested in "their" programs, have to stop watching the games on TV? That is the issue.

Re: Original NIL Discussion
We've always been the underdog and done more with less. But this has tilted the scale so far in favor of others that I'm not sure it matters if we step up and answer the NIL call.
And that is more frustrating than anything.

Re: Who left first, players or coach Kerns?
Educate me (and maybe others) on exactly how these collectives work. Are people blindly donating money to these groups who in turn decide to whom and how much to pay? Is an arbitrary group deciding the "value" of certain "student athletes"? This make absolutely zero fiscal sense to me. We are prett...

Re: Original NIL Discussion
Students got a scholarship and a stipend each semester pre NIL. 400 opportunities at a school like ours were provided. I'd estimate 90% of the NIL contributions will come from the upper quartile of existing donors at most schools. If donors get disenfranchised by their prior "donations" walking out ...

For those that are great at searching this message board could you bump the original NIL discussion from a couple of years ago, I'd love to read the predictions from that gem.

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
All of this was so predictable. No one should be surprised. It's a shame, and I'm grateful for this season. But if a program isn't supported, this will happen. And the thing is, none of these guys will go to the NBA. They just have a shot a more appreciated program. Even if we "supported" the schoo...

Appalachian athletics has provided an outlet from the outside noise for over two decades personally.
Isn't getting difficult to stay invested at the current rate.

I think he wishes he had 15 more days. The strength program likes this schedule better, which trumps fans need for involvement ;-).
