Just one person’s opinion but Georgia Southern wasn’t a bad/awful team last night. And the Eagles will give us fits in Statesboro on Feb. 3.

It looks like Xavion Brown’s approach to shooting free throws in the past couple of games has improved. He’s getting more of his legs (really his whole body) into the shot. He’ll probably never be a Donald Sims but there seems to be improvement.

I thought Funderburk was one of the unsung heroes of our defense.

Our half-court offense has gone flat. Credit JMU. Probably ramp up the tempo. Likely will lead to more turnovers. But it might help.

Wouldn’t mind seeing somebody setting a pick along the three-point line to get Mantis an open look.

Is Harcum playing hurt? Doesn’t seem to be as twitchy as he used to be.

Not sure what the school record is for turnovers but we have to be on pace to break it.

Yeah, we need to be more accurate from the free throw line. We also need better play in the backcourt than we saw in the Troy game. We’ve seen Tate, Harcum, Brown, Gregory and Marsh all play at a high level, so we known it’s possible.

There are mechanical elements to good free throw shooting. It’s like a golf swing in which there are dozens of areas that must be in sync for a successful shot. Take CJ Huntley, for example. Our backcourt has to play better than today. Would like to see Marsh get a few more of Tate and Harcum’s minutes. Marsh makes a lot of mistakes but few players anywhere are as quick as his is. Wish I had a remedy for our free throw woes. A very winnable road game slipped through our fingers.

When your entire backcourt takes the night off, there’s no amount of coaching that can overcome that.

We got depth. That is a big factor. I would like to see us press more full court... really mean it ... versus showing and retreating.

If we’re going to play an up-tempo offense (like we did last night), I doubt we’ll have the legs or the fouls to give to press much on defense.

Burger got hurt on the seventh play of the season. Yes, he had a few downs during the ‘22 season but hardly enough to give us a fair assessment.
