Re: Different angle on the NCHSAA thread
T-Dog, even prior to reading your explanation, the make up of who was supporting this move did have me questioning my own theory. It was the side supporting charter schools and vouchers that supported LCA's suit here in Virginia after all, as well as a related measure to allow homeschooled kids in t...

Re: Different angle on the NCHSAA thread
Issues you raise, particularly recruiting and transfers, are a direct result of the rapid expansion of charter and private schools in the NCHSAA over the last 20 years. Those are easily addressed in-house if the state would get out of the way. If Florida, Ohio, or California can have total integrati...

Different angle on the NCHSAA thread
Apparently, that other NCHSAA was locked or moved to the political folder I don't know how to access while I was writing this. I hope the mods don't mind me opening a new thread because I worked too long on this, I wanted to share it. I wanted to talk about a different angle not discussed in that ot...

Re: PAC-12 melt down
What is happening, and perhaps intentionally, is the development of two Super Conferences to operate like the AFC and NFC in the NFL. Those college conferences, SEC, BIG 10, will recruit and bring the best recruits in to prep them for NFL teams. What's left of college football will be the USFL, or ...

The new turf looks nice, more stylish than the old one. It is fun to get out on that type of turf, like running on a sponge.

Fields hockey will be on Twitch, youtube, and Facebook. Get your grandkids to show you what those are. https://appstatesports.com/news/2023/8/2/athletics-mountaineers-release-2023-fall-streaming-schedule.aspx Ok, I thought the MAC is an ESPN conference just like the SBC, so why can't we and the res...

Re: Alumni Hall officially
Coastal just opened an off campus store in Conway. I have been doing college visits with the oldest daughter of late. And one of the things I found attractive when looking at colleges, and she seems to be attracted to as well, is going to school in a "college town". And one of the markers in my min...

Re: End of year 22-23 , how do you grade it?
The two non-Sun Belt sports had fabulous seasons. Football started exciting but ultimately finished disappointing. Baseball and CC were solid. Everything else, yikes. C- Women's Tennis and Field Hockey solid as well. FH was one of two non-Belt sports, wrestling being the other. Yeah, I led with fie...

Re: Early, but let's do it now
What's acceptable for this season? This season? Warm weather, kids at the pool, a week at the beach or better yet, maybe a road trip to Yellowstone. Come fall, I'd expect to see App football get bowl eligible and compete for the conference title, and improvements over last year for App's other team...

Re: Darius Rucker
Interesting the tie in between 'Wagon Wheel' and Boone. Old Crow Medicine Show was busking in downtown Boone when a young lady came over and said her father liked their music and wanted to meet them. Her father was Doc Watson and he invited them to play Merlefest OCMS used to play shows pretty ofte...

Re: The incredible shrinking future of college
A college degree tells an employer that you can apply yourself to a 4-year (+/-) project and successfully complete it. If the degree is in your chosen field that's just a bonus. with exceptions of course. I always say a college degree tells an employer you can show up and turn in a product that sat...

Re: Darius Rucker
My wife just mentioned today that we should get tickets and come up to Boone. While I did see Hootie in town as a student, I'm not particularly interested in seeing him now but any excuse to get to Boone is good enough for me. So maybe we will come on up.

Re: Another haunt bites the dust
It’s funny how every generation on here has their favorite local hangouts. It’s almost like these things change, but with each new generation, more character forms… Yeah, every generation has their places. The only constant is change itself. For example, the only closed place mentioned in the origi...

For one of you legal minds, if there is a coop that's paying the players to pay, is that employment? If it is, are they subject to labor laws, minimum wage, over-time and workers compensation? 1099 guys are still subject to Workers Compensation laws. I am currently both a w2 employee one place and ...

I was able to make a rare visit to Boone this past weekend and had a chance to drive up to the track. It is sure nice for the team to have their own facility. It looked great.
