Re: Another haunt bites the dust
I readily admit that my favorite spot for years was Woodlands. Went there a good bit back in the 80's before it burned down. Had a long gap of years until I got back there to the rebuild. Not quite the same but still good. Kind of hated seeing an Outback right next door. Times change and at the end...

Re: Another haunt bites the dust
Though I wouldn’t call it a “haunt” it’s good to see the return of the Graystone Lodge on 105. They’ve done a lot of work to it, and while it’s no Hilton, at least it’s not a Super 8 anymore. I hope they keep the quotes coming on the sign. Someone with Super 8 had a great sense of humor. Back in th...

Re: Another haunt bites the dust
No college town ever stays the same, and the longer away folks get from graduation, the more they complain about it. Whenever you were at App, I'm sure it wasn't the same as it was 20 years earlier, and old grads then griped about it too. Don't get me wrong, it's sad to me too. But it's just inevit...

Who knows, but with all the realignment and money grabbing, the NIL and the portal, college football is morphing into something I no longer recognize.

Re: Tampering Article in The Athletic
We all watched the upward progression for App football over the years. We had our share of wins over Wake but honestly for the most part they were a glorified G5 team most years back in the day. I remember going to a game at SC in the 80's. If I recall we played them tough but lost. Those close but...

Re: Another Portal Loss
Does anyone have any context on the reason for McLeod's decision? I understand that a new Defensive Coaching staff this year so some of it may be a byproduct of gaining alignment from the entire defensive players that this is how we are going to run the defense this year. Maybe that is part of issu...

Re: Excellent BBQ joint
Why did Willie Brooks close? How or why would so much change at Woodlands if it didn't need fixing.... It's inexplicable, they threw out the baby with the bathwater. Completely changed the menu including the BBQ, the slaw recipe, no hamburgers and eliminating all Mexican. It is mostly unrecognizabl...

Re: Excellent BBQ joint
Ridgewood BBQ, Bluff City, TN. Best I ever had, but, I haven't been there in many, many years. It used to be darn awesome. Hmmm there may be a road trip in the near future. You guys have my BBQ taste buds going now. Lexington has always been good for me but I do want to try JD's outside Lenoir. Fri...

Re: Excellent BBQ joint
Is there anything in Wilkesboro or Lenoir area? There is nothing in Watauga county anymore, I don't know where I can find real BBQ without driving an hour and a half. Is the Peddlin Pig or Willie Brooks not good? Wish Woodlands or what was where Willie Brooks was were still open.... Willie Brooks w...

I haven't lived down there in a dozen years, but Brushy Mountain Smokehouse used to be decent. Is that no longer the case? It's stil...

Lots of fried chicken/biscuit variations and some other interesting menu items. I bet some of those dishes are 1,500 calories or more. Got a $12 gravy biscuit on the menu

Good luck Nick. NIL and the portal are going to destroy big time college football. It's a cancer that will permeate the locker rooms of the heavy weight programs.
