Re: Camelia Bowl
All this is true but had we beaten state, things would have been different. We're number two this year (three if we don't win this weekend). We don't belong in the top bowl. Good point. I do think it's a problem for the Sun Belt that the standings have no direct link to the bowl order. The league n...

Re: Camelia Bowl
Six hour drive from Charlotte, we should have a good crowd there. For reference the drive to Chattanooga was about 5.5 hours from Charlotte. If we can take 20,000 to Chatty on a weeks notice we should easily be able to get 15,000+ to make this trip. All you have to do is get on I-85 and head south....

Re: Bowl projection update
While I'm most definitely in the "Mobile is a hard no" camp, it's interesting that the date has been such a turnoff given that they just moved it this year. In previous years, it was always the first week in January - somewhere between the 3rd and 5th I think. I thought that was an awful date too, b...

Re: Camelia Bowl
OK, request for you web sleuths - let's see if we can find any more solid indicators on who our opponent will be. (I'm not talking projections, but reports on actual deals in place like McMurphy's tweet).

Re: Camelia Bowl
Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too. Both bowls choose MAC teams and I think they'll be pretty comparable opponents. GoDaddy likely chose stink for $$$ puposes, since that is what drives the bowls anyway No doubt that's how ...

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14272580/three-sun-belt-schools-accept-bowl-bids-two-more-try-join-them Interesting quote from Benson: "These three Sun Belt teams are well deserving bowl teams with nine or more wins ," Benson said. "I wish we had more teams bowl eligible, but these a...

Re: Bowl projection update
Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPN 2m2 minutes ago More bowls set: Arkansas State to New Orleans, Georgia Southern to GoDaddy & Appalachian State to Camellia, sources told @ESPN Well there you go. If true, I'm mildly surprised the Camellia would lock us in with USA still a possibility. But whatever, I'm...

Correct kb - all 6-6 teams must be placed before any 5-7 teams can be selected.

Re: Bowl projection update
If we go 11-1 next year, we'll be a strong candidate for the access bowl. Depends on what other teams do, of course. But we'll be in the mix. Bigger question for me is whether we can replace our departing seniors suitably enough to actually have a chance at such a record. Either way, please no "acce...

Re: Bowl projection update
Though I never would've guessed it before the season, I'm actually starting to kind of hope for Montgomery. I'm assuming stAte will be in New Orleans, I can't make Mobile, and Orlando would likely mean losing to USA and facing a 6-6 team. At this point I'm content to take the reasonable driving dist...

Re: Hoping Ga State becomes bowl eligible
By definition, "win the conference outright" means there are no ties to break. Which, of course, will in all likelihood be the case.

If Georgia Southern knows how to do one thing, it's beat Sun Belt also-rans and bottom-feeders.

Re: RE: Re: How many App fans go bowling?
You are correct and I understand how it works. You have to admit that there is more prestige in playing the MAC champion than a middle of the pack MAC team. I actually don't think it makes much difference this year. The best team in the MAC is 9-2 Toledo and they aren't even in the title game. Who ...

Re: bowl rankings
OK, have replied to this a few times, but one more time for the record: We're not going to play a 5-7 team in our bowl. - GoDaddy and Montgomery both draw from the MAC, which has more eligible teams than tie-ins (all of them 7-5 or better). Long story short: Both of those bowls will feature MAC team...

Re: Playoffs
24 teams would be way too many for the playoffs IMO. I think four is pretty good, as it still keeps the regular season as high-priority. Eight would be fine too. Ultimately, if you wanted to kind of combine the football and basketball models, you could go to 16 teams, with auto bids for all 10 confe...

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
For what its worth, some GS posters are saying they are not the same team now that lost to App, insinuating that they would beat us if we played again. Geez. In fairness, many posters here said the same thing last year. We can only wish they had the chance to prove themselves against A-State. Inste...

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
It is kind of a shame that as far as bowls go there isn't a tremendous amount of reward for 11-1 in the Sunbelt versus 8-4 or in our case possibly 10-2. Hopefully next season the conference will attempt to have all of the top dogs play each other. Two issues I think the Sun Belt needs to address: 1...
