Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Our D has been dominant against SunBelt/G5 teams - but there is a reason we do not have a P5 win - they've out scored us. Optimistically I believe Roof can provide some tweaks that will help us compete (and win) against P5s. After all, with all of his tenures he's gone against good-to-better P5 off...

Re: Top 25 Preseason Ranking for 2019?
All conferences have three levels of teams. The top teams don't change levels as often as the middle and bottom teams do. What the Sunbelt has accomplished lately is that the top level and the middle level have grown thus shrinking the bottom. Before we joined, the SBC seemed to have one top team ea...

Re: Top 25 Preseason Ranking for 2019?
We've been a fixture in the "also receiving votes" area this year. If we know anything it's that the voters follow old habits by giving credit to teams that have a history. So now that we've started receiving votes it's easier for voters to write our name down again. I imagine that we'll be in the 3...

Re: What the G5 should work towards. Guaranteed way to increase strength of schedule.
I do not want to see 16. It's true the first two left out in any size playoff will complain but would a 3 loss #17 or 18 have a real shot to beat a #1 or 2 team? Probably not. I say 8. 5 P5 CCG winners (emphasize winning your own conference), 2 P5 wild cards, and 1 guaranteed G5 rep. Totally agree ...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Just a hunch, but I think Neal Brown ends up at WVU. Sounds like Dana Holgerson will leave and go to Houston. Appears Brown is on their radar if/when that happens. Very late in the game for a coaching change, and there will be even more shakeups if any NFL teams dip into the college ranks. GO APPS!...

Re: Time for Change with App State Basketball
At least now, if we make a change our position won't be in the shape it was when Fox was hired. I like Fox and think he was what we needed at the time to straighten out the mess we were in. It does appear that now we've hit a wall and it's probably time for a change (I would wait until the end of th...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Another concern that I've seen is that Roof has moved around a lot. I don't see that as a major concern. Look at most position coaches or Off/Def coordinators they move around a lot - only staying at most 3-4 years normally. These coaches are mostly looking to move up and gain experiences that will ...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
What's funny is that nationally this will be seen as a Splash hire for App and will generate good press. Here some are acting like Roof stole their girlfriend and keyed their car. Yep, just yesterday here in Raleigh they were on the radio talking about what an impressive staff Drink is putting toge...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I don't see how anyone can blame Roof for anything at State. Huxtable was the one calling their defense. Roof was an assoc. head coach/safeties coach for one season. Good or bad that's not enough sample size, especially considering their defense lost 9 starters from the previous season to make any j...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I get what you're saying about Roof and his early career, but the second half of the statement gives me pause. He didn't adjust to spread offenses quick enough? The history of the Belt is offense. App has been so dominant because of its defense shutting those offenses down. For years, the teams tha...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
The longer we go without a DC the more it looks like Roof. No one has had a scoop yet on any of the outside hires from the HC down. So I'm of the belief that if we hear it here first it must be wrong. Also, I don't see Roof being hired as the next DC. Clark is the oldest coach on the new staff so f...

Re: Football scheduling
There are currently 120 FBS teams. How about we have 12 10 team conferences, no divisions, 9 conference games + 3 OOC(no FCS games), no conference championship game. 12 champs get auto bid, 4 wildcards in 16 team playoff. It will never happen due to current makeup and money but may be one of the be...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Don't know what the staff will look like next year but I did see a sentence on Ethan Joyce article about signing day. It was Drinks eval on one if the defensive guys saying the kid would fit well in "our" 3-4 defense. Obviously a side note but may be a good indication he will not try and change def...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
If it's true regarding the Ivey and Jones deal breaker being a multi-year contract then I don't really see a "bad guy" from either side. Ivey and Jones want security during a coaching transition as they know sometimes new coaches keep prior staff members for just one season to aide in the transition...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I do wonder, if you're a Louisville fan are you skeptical at all of the staff Satterfield is bringing in? Brown and Sirignano seemed like obvious slam dunk additions. But I'm a bit surprised Satterfield is turning to basically his entire App staff to fill his staff at Louisville. I mean he's fillin...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I keep hearing "divided" to describe our fan-base. However, it seems about 90% are pretty positive. Heck, 10% are almost always going to be unhappy regardless. So I'd say overall, we're fairly united over the hire and are naturally a little cautious/anxious while we await what hires/departures come ...
