Re: Matt Stevens passes
This is so sad. Always hated that he got paralyzed and he is way too young to be gone. Matt was a great football player and was great to deal with while at App and even ran into him while he was still in the NFL. RIP, Matt. He will be missed. I hope our athletic department has a moment of silence or something for him at the spring game.biggie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 10:21 pmJust happen to come across a mention on FB.

I was at App when he played. Never knew him but he was fun to watch play. Prayers for his family.

I still remember the silence in KBS when Matt was hurt against UTC. RIP Matt

Re: Matt Stevens passes
How many other Apps have a superbowl ring? Matt got the first Brady ring before Houston took him in expansion. He did get the ability to sort of walk with assistance if I remember the story.

Dang - hate this, my all time favorite App - I have couple of his NFL cards. Wish highlights back then were as abundant as they are today. So fast on the field!

Re: Matt Stevens passes
He was very fast. Went from walk-on to a 6'1 CB/S who could run legit sub 4.4s before his knee injury. He is definitely among my top 3 favorite App players. Have to love his story. Most believe he would have been a top 40-50 pick in the NFL Draft had he not got hurt. I remember reading one media member saying he had a shot to rise into the first round prior to his injury.

Re: Matt Stevens passes
The day after he was injured his senior year they had a prayer for him at Boone Methodist Church. I had read somewhere that year that he had been projected as one of the top players at his position in the next NFL draft. He was very talented and fun to watch on the field. RIP.

Re: Matt Stevens passes
I remember, as well, sobering silence. It was clear that everyone in the stadium knew it was bad.

Re: Matt Stevens passes
It definitely had the feeling that it was worse than a normal injury and that was with a secondary that Matt was among 3 who went to the NFL Combine that year. It was a huge loss.
Does anyone know of any players to remember this loss at the spring game?

Re: Matt Stevens passes
His legacy lives on in Boone. I believe Danny Stevens (OL) is family, maybe nephew.
