Re: Surviving the Cut
It was a misplaced pick in the 2nd round. At best should have been a 5th round pick and then a project at QB/ AE was recruited as a potential DB fro Clemson and USC. Armanti would not have survived the pounding the NFL would dish out to a QB. I'd liked to have seen it but realistically it wasnt meant to be.

Re: Surviving the Cut
They actually picked him in the late 3rd, which wasn't really that much of a reach. Problem was that Hurney did his trademark mortgaging the future by trading a higher pick in the following draft plus additional picks, which is part of what eventually cost him his job.
As for Panthers fans, all I'll say is that if you judge any fanbase by message boards, you'll run out of teams to cheer for in a hurry.

I was stunned when the Panthers made the trade to move up to take AE. I'm a diehard Panther fan but I figured AE would be available much later. He wasn't done any favors when that crazy trade was made.EastHallApp wrote:They actually picked him in the late 3rd, which wasn't really that much of a reach. The Pats wanted AE, so Hurney traded up to their spot to get him. I wish now the Pats had taken him. The Panthers and the Observer treated him like a media stunt. A writer for the Observer admitted as much and apologized for it when AE was waived.bigdaddyg wrote:I was stunned when the Panthers made the trade to move up to take AE. I don't think it was just your opinion - everything I read that hadn't been censored said exactly that - he didn't want him and used him as a "pawn" in his disagreements with management ---mountaineerman wrote:My personal opinion is Fox never wanted AE so that led to his problems.

Re: Surviving the Cut
I don't think that was near the top of the list of his problems, but when a coach keeps a 3rd round pick on the inactive list for basically the whole season, I think it's safe to say he wasn't thrilled to have him on the roster.mountaineerman wrote:My personal opinion is Fox never wanted AE so that led to his problems.
However, Rivera gave AE every shot to succeed as a WR and return man. Just didn't work out. And for those who blame the Panthers for not playing him at QB, I'm pretty sure WR was where pretty much everyone projected him. I do think he could have made a good backup QB for a team that does a lot of read option stuff with their starter (like the Panthers, of course).

Look at Newton's size and then AE. He just was not big enough for a read option in the NFL

Re: Surviving the Cut
I personally, and probably most others, hold no ill will with Rivera - he did give Armanti a fair shot and I believe he could have delivered if it hadn't been for that injury that knocked him out of the entire pre-season. After the Browns picked him up I listened to a game and in that game he caught 1-2 passes, played QB, and ran back punts - unfortunately again for him the last punt return which went for almost 20 yards he was hit along the sideline and injured and was never able to return - it was evident that the Browns were planning on using him --- The one thing I am happy about is he was paid very good money by the Panthers for all those years !!!

But Russel Wilson would be a counter to that.Rekdiver wrote:Look at Newton's size and then AE. He just was not big enough for a read option in the NFL

As a starter, I agree. As a backup, I think it might have worked. You don't have to be 6'5", 250 to run some read option (see Russell Wilson).Rekdiver wrote:Look at Newton's size and then AE. He just was not big enough for a read option in the NFL

Re: Surviving the Cut
Armani's frame and weight is slight compared to Wilsons. AE seemed prone to injury and Wilsin is durable like Brees.

So what's up with the current former App guys? Armanti was great but is probably needing to move on with life. Time marches on. Let's focus on the other guys.

Cadet is more of a lock. Offers the same skills as spiller for a small price tag.

Re: Surviving the Cut
While we shake off the UT loss..some guys still trying to make or keep their NFL job
Tonight's action.:
Lamm and Kilgore limited play. Lock
Blair 3 solo tackles. Lock
Middleton: 6 tackles 5 solo In the hunt
Washington don't think he saw the field.
Quick no targets no drops no catches.....
Cadet DNP in fact did not dress.

Re: Surviving the Cut
Washington probably done. Not good for Quick but did he play much? If Cadet didn't dress maybe he's considered a lock.Rekdiver wrote:While we shake off the UT loss..some guys still trying to make or keep their NFL job
