Re: Armanti to the CFL
Per rough riders message board
"He got hurt hurt in Florida mini camp but they loved him so they moved him to retired list till he was good so he didnt take up a roster spot"
It seems that he's healthy now, but may not be activated the 1st game. Seem to be really high on him at WR and potential QB though.

Re: Armanti to the CFL
There are way too many conflicting stories coming out of Riderville. All of them can't be accurate. He was just activated on Sunday and moved to the disabled list on Wednesday. I think it's going to take a while for the whole story to come out. I would add, however, that the term "disabled" by his name is troubling. Suddenly, I'm remembering the lawn mowing caper./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Asking...not suggesting.... should AE give up football?

I watched the game yesterday and didn't see him...the refs couldn't be more friendly it was kind of strange and their penalties were humorous

Re: Armanti to the CFL
If he is injured again, it must be frustrating for him. Just as he was getting used to the speed of the NFL game he was injured with both the Panthers and Browns.

Here's the response from a beat writer ---
"Thanks for the note, WV. The situation is a bit muddy. There are so many new
players here that we are still trying to get a handle on a lot of situations. He
is healthy, it seems, but stashed away so he doesn't count against the salary
cap. I am not sure what their plans are for him. I am not sure if they know,
either. Many of the newcomers, including those on the active roster, are in the
audition stage. Sorry I can't provide more information. I will try to ask this
week and get back to you ... Cheers, Rob

Re: Armanti to the CFL
Thanks WVAPPeer! At least we are not the only ones clear as mud on the roster ways of the CFL. Come to think of it, I am about the same with the NFL roster ways to some degree. Also, kudos to Rob for his prompt reply and candor in handling your inquiry.WVAPPeer wrote:Here's the response from a beat writer ---

Wow. Their media is indeed polite.

Re: Armanti to the CFL
I'm impressed that we got such a prompt and straightforward reply from a perfect stranger. From direct experience, the Panthers wouldn't give us squat--way back when I actually cared about the Panthers. They are dead to me now!

Re: Armanti to the CFL
Here's another response from a sports writer in Regina ---
"Hi WV,
Armanti seems to be caught in the CFL world of multiple lists. I¹ve been
on the beat for eight years and I can¹t figure them all our because the
lists seems to change every season.
In my mind, they are stashing Armanti because they don¹t have a position
for him and don¹t want to give up on him. He¹s played quarterback,
receiver, defensive back and returned punts and kickoffs since I first saw
him at the mini-camp in Vero Beach.
The good news is the Riders want to keep him around. It¹s tough for him
because he has to patiently wait for another chance to showcase his
skills. Unfortunately that means working out on his own after the main
practice. He has been doing that regularly.
I understand that he has some sort of injury, but I¹m not sure what it is
or how serious.
I wish I could provide more information, but that¹s all I know.
Ed Gainey missed the season opener with some sort of injury, but he has
been working with the first team this week so I expect him to start on
Friday.
As you can probably tell from this note, the CFL isn¹t very forthcoming
with injury information.
Thanks for the note. Feel free to contact whenever if you¹re looking for
information on Armanti or Ed. I told Armanti the other day that a North
Carolina follower was asking about him and he smiled. Once again, not
much, but it¹s something.
Sincerely
Murray "

Riders just posted this vine...the first catch is by #10, and it sure looks like him...his trademark jog at the end when he's coming back on the field.

Re: Armanti to the CFL
The Riders tweeted yesterday a picture of Gainey with a "He's Back!" tag. Which would lead me to believe he should be on the active roster come Friday night.
Since I started following the CFL 5 years ago, it seems they are really cagey about injury reports and movement of players from their various lists. On the Riderville roster page you'll see lists for Active, 1-Game Injured, 6-Game Injured, and Practice Squad. Over the past few seasons I've seen them move players among all 4 lists with little discernible logic or reason.
I will say that CFL coaches (and Rider's HC Jones has a Hell of a CFL pedigree) do seem way more willing to experiment with players and line-ups during the regular season than any American level (NFL or college). That may be because only 3 of the 9 teams will NOT make the playoffs, so as long as you can manage the top 66% of the league you'll be playing for the Cup. Jones is the HC, General Manager and VP of Football Operations, so if he likes what he's seeing in Armanti, that's are really good sign.
It was a fun game in spite of the Riders performance and the lack of App players on the field. Gainey was on the sidelines, I caught a glimpse of him during a pre-game tour of the stadium with a friend who does their stats, but I didn't see AE around anywhere. Not saying that means anything, there were many players I didn't see. My friend also said he'd let both players know that App fans are following them.
On a side note, I took up 6 pairs of black and yellow App State flannel pajama pants for folks who had seen a pic of me in mine. We tried to get a pic of all of us wearing the pants, but it was late, we were loaded and forgot the flash. Needless to say, there is some App State merchandise floating around Regina.
