His stats dont actually show how well he played. He did really well in things that don't show up on the stat sheets -- filling gaps, containing, great coverage, etc. I noticed on at least one kickoff he was the first man down field.

Great comments on twitter about him though. Comments said he played very well. defended a pass, tackled TJ Logan twice on 2 yard gains and someone else on a 5 yard 4th down play.

I'm not sure that the Cowboys don't have a specific game plan in mind when it comes to Gilchrist. They had him cover the defensive end on both sides on multiple occasions, like an OLB in 3-4, purely for rushing the passer. Each of the times I saw he flushed the QB from the pocket and forced and errant throw. Other times they had him dropping and covering the flat and hash to sideline, each of his tackles were a result of that, though one may have been when he was covering the end.
I'm not a Cowboys fan so I'm unfamiliar with their typical scheme but it seemed to me that they are going to try to use the linebackers more aggressively to get after the QB. This makes sense for Gilchrist as a former OLB in a 3-4 with the measurable for a 4-3 OLB.
Either way, he looked like he belonged last night. Hopefully he will get some reps with the twos during the pre-season.

I watched him and he played great didn't see him make any mistakes. I wish I could remember the source I read before the game but it discussed that Cowboys will most likely keep 7 LB spots on the roster. The current roster has 11 LBs. If I recall exactly it stated that 5 or 6 spots were probably assured to returning vets.

If he continues to do well at LB role and excels on special teams I think he has a chance. Of all the Cowboy LBs I watched last night, Keenan seemed to be the quickest and maybe the fastest.....just my opinion from what I saw last night.
