Duck playing tonight? Panthers at Bears

Unread post by BlueCreekAppFan » Tue Aug 06, 2019 5:50 pm

Saw where the CLT and CHI are playing tonight. Anyone know if Duck is supposed to play?

I’m sure we’ll see him, fighting for a roster spot.

I read somewhere he's gotten a few interceptions in training camp. I'm a Panthers fan but I wouldn't mind him lighting us up if it mean he could get on the roster.

I read in the Chicago Tribune that the Bears have 11 DBs in camp and will keep 6. At the time, they projected that Duck would be on the practice squad.

Go look at Bears depth chart. It will change after this week I'm sure but as of now it looks like he will get cut in the first wave. If he can climb above 2 guys or so after the Panthers game I would feel much better about a PS shot.

This was the beat writer's projection, not mine.

It's Thursday at 8:00 PM. Link to "Apps in the Pros" thread about Duck and some linked practice reports.

The Bears depth chart doesn't have placement for a Nickel Corner. Duck likely fits that role perfectly. Based on practice reports from beat writers and the overall optimism I'd expect him to be around until Preseason Week 4, Cut, and placed on the Practice Squad. If he doesn't make the Bears practice squad he will be with another NFL Practice Squad before Week 1.

The playmaking we first saw in Knoxville, TN and in performances like he had against Toledo and NMSU, are showing out in practice. He's been an interception machine and his name generates a bit more notoriety among the fans in Illinois.

https://ontapsportsnet.com/2019/08/06/t ... ven-recap/ "As I mentioned in yesterday’s recap, keep an eye out for Clifton Duck. He continued to hover around the ball, which resulted in another interception and a pass breakup."

https://ontapsportsnet.com/2019/08/05/t ... six-recap/ "Another defensive player making a splash is undrafted rookie Clifton Duck. Today he read a play beautifully and undercut the route for an interception."

Just a few quick hits I could find.

Duck and Hayes had good nights. Actually makes me more concerned for our defense in 2019. Those guys will be tough to replace.

All of our former DBs were in the box score last night:

Duck - 6 tackles, 1 PD
Hayes - 3 tackles, 2 PD, 1 INT
Middleton - 4 tackles
Howard - 4 tackles
Exford - 2 tackles

Hayes's INT was against McSorley (Penn State QB from last season)...somehow that makes it even better...

I did notice Duck totally ducked out of tackling Holyfield on his last TD. It would have been a hit on the goal line, and he would not have stopped the score, but when you're fighting for your professional life, sidestepping may not help in the long run. Of course, I wasn't on the field and it was a quick look, so he might have just not been able to get more than a hand out on him.

Thought Duck played pretty well, though. Was a physical as he was in college, which he will need in the NFL.

Now wouldn't you say that hearing about the Myquon Stout (NFL), Austin Exford (NFL), Tae Hayes (NFL), and Clifton Duck (NFL) replacements would be interesting?

That's an impressive group and even if none of them were drafted it's a huge thing that has gone unsaid here. App lost four starters on defense and all four are now in the NFL, in some capacity.

I thought he got caught up with another defender and was basically mowed over. Someone from the Bears defense went flying near the pylon on that play.
