Add in the 37" vert, 125" broad jump and I think it's safe to say he can start cashing those checks. Great film, huge production and the great athletic testing oh and you know he killed the interviews!

A lot of scouts thought Evans could run 4.36-4.38 range and he just ran 4.52. Believe it or not, the 4.42 just keeps him where he was coming in. He needed mid 4.3s to really boost himself at all, if any. It will be interesting to see if he runs again since App told scouts he could run 4.3s. 4.42, which is fast, is on the slower end of what people thought. If he had run 4.52 both times he would have hurt himself.

For our strength staff but never for NFL teams. This was the first time he ever ran for the NFL and these times are what they will use. Summer and spring testing times are given to teams and they may use as estimates but will always replace with times they verify with their own stopwatches.

I wish our staff would go back to having players run at the junior pro day. Dexter Jackson actually ran 4.3s for scouts at his junior pro day but it has been a long time since we have let them run.

So far Evans has done well. The lowest 40 was 4:41 so he has helped himself. He needs to do well in the field drills. We’ll see...

Was around 4th in the broad jump too. I think Darrynton just had a helluva day for himself.

Yes.... vert (10) 37.0, tied for (5) broad jump 10.5 plus (2) in 40 4.41 .... had to make money 💰 today. Also looked pretty good in catching the ball too. Way to go Darrynton!

Common misconception with the combine is that a good workout always makes a player money. It depends on if the workout was better than teams thought the player would do.

Our staff told NFL teams he would run in the 4.43 range. I projected 4.40 because of that, what teams told me, and how I thought he looked on tape. In the scouting world if you expect 4.40 and they run 4.41 then you confirm what you thought. Evans looked good and solidified where teams had him, which was anywhere from late 3rd to early 6th round.

My opinion is that he goes one round higher than he would have because of the juniors who stayed in school. Several guys who were going ahead of him decided to stay.

Had he run a 4.35 with say a 10'10 broad jump, 39 inch vertical, etc he would have made money for sure.

While I agree in general with those comments. The reality was he was a tenth of your projection on his official time of 4:41. Together with his vertical and broad jump and his field work certainly solidified his position as a 3rd or 4th rounder (which is making $$$$). I loved when Daniel Jeremiah kept saying “ that is App State speed.”

All I have said before, unless I state is my own opinion, is coming from what NFL scouts, agents, or a coach has told me.

Making money means you are going higher after the combine than you were going into it. He solidified himself but this workout just confirmed what the teams thought. Sometimes schools are not accurate with times but App was close and that helps big time when a school is accurate and his play speed matches their times and what he actually runs. If he had run a 4.35 and jumped crazy freak numbers he would have moved up boards.

I got a text from a scout at the combine who said the Colts were his only formal interview and they think he could be one of their targets in round 3 or 4. My source said many teams have Evans in the 5th or 6th round with just a few having him in round 3 or 4 so he may or may not go top 100.

I'm told coaches can often effect stock a lot because they come in the process late and these workouts are the first thing many of them see outside of the Senior Bowl. I'm told coaches will move players up after the combine and scouts won't see it on their board until off the road from pro days. Happens a lot.

As for the Jeremiah comment. I liked hearing it as well. People in the business refer to it as SEC speed but if we keep this up maybe we will be known as App State speed by more than just our alumni! We do have some players like Hennigan who can't run fast at all but Evans certainly is not the last of the good speed.

Evans proved what we already knew.... He is a smooth runner with technically sound skills in the running/receiving game and he had breakaway speed. He is not overly explosive and won't blow up NFL tacklers. Ive been expecting him to go 5th-6th to a team who will want his diverse skill set in the return game and backfield (I always compare him to James White, NE). He didn't hurt himself at the combine, and in fact, probably raised some eyebrows with his smoothness on full display. I would expects scouts to want to do some specific drills with him at a proday to really test his versatility.

Great day young man, look forward to seeing you on Sundays. Just don't go play for the Falcons or Cowboys.
