I hope they go 0-16. Why would you gut the roster of a team that went 12-4?

Other than Steve Smith they upgraded WRs and the DBs they lost signed contracts twice what they are worth.

The real head scratcher not getting much attention is the retirement of Gross.

I hate they cut DJ he can be a great backup in this league still.

Jumping the gun there aren't you?

DJ Smith was signed to the Panthers practice squad.

Panthers picked up WR Stephen Hill and cut DJ today. This is going to happen for a few more days as teams look at players who have been cut and pick up areas of need. DJ will most likely find a team needing LB's and ST players. Wish him luck.

Well I stuck with them even though they screwed Armanti - I like Rivera but not the new GM - there was no need to cut AE when he did last year other than to make a statement - they elevated a guy from the PS who had never played --- Now with cutting DJ and keeping a guy who has never played and I'm sure they are just waiting until they can cut DeAndre ---
Since I have TWC and have to watch them each week I hope they win but that's about it ---
I mean, someone is going to convince me that Bersin from Wofford (no offense to the kid) is better than Armanti??? ---

This is big boy football. You think they kept a kid because of family connections?

He looked like the 5th best WR during preseason. Which is why they picked up hill on the practice squad. Do you guys watch the games or just complain.

I thin DJ was one of the best 6 LBs too. Problem is younger guys are kept when cuts are made in the NFL.

Yup, it happens all the time whether its sports, politics, business or other matters. Family connections can go a long way. Many times who you know matters more than what you are capable of doing.

Not generally but for final roster spots I think just about anything can come into play - Like if a guy is openly gay - :o

I'm not disagreeing that he was probably their 5th best receiver especially when the team has none of last year's top 5 receivers -
Which reminds me of another reason I don't like this guy - YOU CANNOT LET STEVE SMITH LEAVE - look I agree he was a problem from time to time but he is the greatest Panther of all time - and I loved his NFL-type spunk on the field ---

And you got me Saint - I watched very little of this years Panther pre-season games

I would disagree that they "gutted the roster" - they kept all the core guys except Smith, and he isn't really a #1 anymore. But to the extent they did, they answer is mostly that they couldn't afford to pay guys like Ginn, Mitchell, Munnerlyn etc. what other teams would. They don't have the cap room now, and more importantly, they need to clear room to sign Newton and Kuechly to long-term deals. They're already looking at probably losing Hardy after this season. Thank Hurney's bad contracts for that.

Yeah you can, when he has an 8.9 million price tag, you sure can! especially since he was the 2nd most productive pass catcher on the team. this is the hard part. It is business, I really like SS but you cannot pay him that with his production. I think they are still paying him something even though he is in baltimore.

Ehh. The NFL is a business. I know that's cliche, but what loyalty did Gettleman have to AE? To that point, AE hasn't made it with the Seahawks or the Bears either--do they have an anti-App State agenda? The Lions drafted Martin, signed Peacock to the PS, but cut Miller...talk about being conflicted. I love AE just like everyone else, but holding that against the Panthers seems ridiculous.

Bersin, to my knowledge, played WR his whole life--or at least all through college. He may not be better than AE, but he's younger and may have a better feel for the position. Plus, I think he's bigger.

Am I the only App fan that doesn't think the Panthers are intentionally out to kill the dreams of former App football players?

Oh - I don't think the panthers are out to kill the dreams of former App players at all - I realize it is a business but I was just telling you what I personally hold against them which in reality holds no water whatsoever --- :o

Pretty much agree with all this. My only gripe with how the Panthers handled Armanti (other than Fox basically redshirting him his rookie year) was how every preseason it seemed like the talked up how great he looked at receiver, but they never gave him much of a shot to prove it in the regular season.

They did give him a full season shot at PR, and he proved he wasn't very good at it, so no issue with the team there.

Well one thing I can say - He had ZERO fumbles as an NFL player ---
