Armanti to the CFL

Armanti Edwards has just been signed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a QB/WR. I think this is very promising for Edwards, especially given the Roughriders are indicating him as a possible QB. Their starting QB is former UNC-CHeat Darian Durant who's aging body has left him sidelined for most of the past 2 seasons. Edwards will most likely start off on the 3 deep behind Durant and former U of Washington Husky Keith Price (going into his 3rd year with the Riders).
The Roughriders let their starting slot receiver Weston Dressler go a few weeks ago to make salary cap room, and have been rebuilding their receiving corps. There is opportunity for him as a receiver. Dressler had also been returning kicks.
I've mentioned elsewhere, when tracking Steven Miller and Mark LeGree (both let go from Saskatchewan last season), that my father-in-law played center for the Roughriders for 11 years in the late 60's and 70's, so we follow them pretty closely. We're planning a trip up to see the home opener this summer, it sure would be nice to see Edwards on Taylor Field in Mosaic Stadium!

Way to go Armanti ! Hope that he finally gets a legitimate shot to play qb at the next level. I know he lacks size and all but remember all of those highlight films running like crazy (Richmond) and throwing over the top to Quick and company. He is one hell of a qb !

I've been following the Riders for a while myself. They also have former UT-C QB BJ Coleman on the roster. Picked him up on Jan 25th. Also former Mountaineer DB Ed Gainey was picked up from the Ti-Cats on Feb 10th.

I always think what could of been if the Panthers had given him a shot instead of Jimmy Clausen. I know he doesn't have the size but i think he would of done 10x the job that Jimmy did. Good luck AE!!!!

It's been a crazy couple of days, and I intended to post this sooner, but I think the Riders announcement is pretty sweet too. They don't typically go into this much detail when announcing new signees, just compare AE's write up to the other 3 dudes.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced international quarterback/receiver Armanti Edwards, international defensive back David Barks, international linebacker Samuel Eguavoen, and international linebacker D.J. Lynch have all signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contracts were not released.
Edwards (5’11 – 190) signs with the Riders after spending five seasons in the National Football League as a receiver. The 27-year-old played 39 regular season games through four seasons with the Carolina Panthers after being selected by the team in the 3rd round (89th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. The Greenwood, South Carolina product added two more regular season games in 2013 after joining the Cleveland Browns midseason.
Before pro, Edwards spent four seasons at Appalachian State University, starting 49 of 51 collegiate games at quarterback, where he led the Mountaineers to four straight Southern Conference championships and consecutive NCAA Div. 1 Football Championships (FCS) in 2006 and 2007. During his tenure, Edwards became the first quarterback in NCAA Div. 1 history to throw for 10,000 yards and rush for over 4,000 yards on his way to picking up All-Southern Conference 1st Team honours in 2006, 2008, and 2009.
Barks (6’0 – 185) joins the Riders after spending the previous four seasons at Northwood University. In 39 career collegiate games, the Detroit, Michigan native registered 116 defensive tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions, and one quarterback sack.
Eguavoen (6’0 – 227) joins the Green and White after playing four seasons at Texas Tech. The 23-year-old registered 225 defensive tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 quarterback sacks and one interception in 48 career collegiate games.
Lynch (6’0 – 252) signs with the Riders after playing 48 career collegiate games through four seasons at Bowling Green University. The 23-year-old collected 230 defensive tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, and eight quarterback sacks.

Pretty good article, looks like he's fighting for the backup QB job.

I was late noticing this thread, but just went to the Saskatchewan website and they list him as a WR. As much as I would love to see Armanti playing QB again, I hope they don't try to split his time.

I was getting so excited until I saw this post . . . I hope he gets a chance at QB. the CFL is loaded with FCS players, I see only good things for AE if he can get back to his old QB form.
June 11th first pre season game! I like baseball OK, but would love to have another sport to pay attention to over the summer.
GO AE, you can do this! maybe a little Doug Flutie repeat . . .

Things I never thought I'd say...I can't wait to watch the CFL this year!

CFL is actually fun to watch. Only 3 downs, bigger field, multiple offensive players in motion prior to the snap, more distance between the O-line and D-line, all makes for a pretty fast paced game. Not to mention football in June is a damn good thing!

I think I will have to tune in some games also this year.

I like the bigger endzone. Makes for goal line plays that can still be long throws. I also like the single or rogue point.

Well now I will become a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan! I hope they have jersey #14 available. To be honest I have not followed the CFL enough to know anything about them, but Go Roughriders! I wish he would have gone there earlier, but better late than never! Good Luck Armanti!!
