From Jets Newswire: 3 UDFA likely to make the 53 man roster
Doug Middleton, DB, App State
The Jets needed to immediately upgrade their coverage units on special teams and the player I referred to as a ‘runaway freight train‘ in Middleton can do exactly that.

Looks like DM has a pretty good shot at making the final 53.

Many of us get offended by the mispronunciation of Appalachian and other negative comments. One thing I read in this article looks odd. Not sure if I've seen us referred to as a "small school". Realize we aren't huge but "small school"? Guess it's going to take a few more years of whoop ass!

We are small. Consider the enrollment at places like UGA (36k+), 'Bama (36k+), Michigan (nearly 44k), Ohio State (nearly 65k), NC State (34k), Carolina (29k), Tennessee (28k). Our enrollment is roughly 18,000. That makes us about 35% smaller than the smallest of those schools. Imagine saying to yourself that you were going to lose 35% of your current weight. You'd likely consider that a significant size change.
Or consider the endowments of a few schools. Duke ($7.3 billion), Wake Forest ($1.13 billion), Tennessee ($1.1 billion), Carolina ($2.99 billion), East Carolina ($187.9 million). App's endowment is about $91 million.
We are definitely small. When it comes to Apps in the NFL, they can call us "small" all day. Just give our guys a shot. They'll prove that great players play at Appalachian State!
Go, Doug! Keep up the good fight!

No argument at all as far as enrollment. I don't view us as a "small" football school

They don't call Duke Wake Rice Wyoming and others small schools....unless the new G5 conferences have a new classification we are no longer a small school. Just an ignorant writer.

Daphne. I'd refer to the larger schools as bloated and overweight.

That would definitely be true of a few I could name rather quickly.

Neither do I, though I would argue that being a big fish in one of the G5's weakest conferences is vastly different from being a big fish in a P5 conference.
I was just looking at what might be the "thought process" of someone who doesn't know much, if anything, about App. Shoot, some goober on the TN message board referred to us as FCS. Educating the ineducable is always an uphill battle. Until we hit P5 status, there will always be those who think of us as small potatoes.
Is it September yet?!?!
