Congrats to the Niners! I have a lot of friends that went to school there and I will be sure to inform them of their team's accomplishment even though it will be hard to explain it to them.

I thought I had read that score wrong. Suprisingly, they could be Bowl eligible. Two of their last three I say are winnable.

To think they were calling for Lambert's head a few weeks ago. Good for them, but it's a sad statement on the current status of CUSA football.

Looks like all the FBS newbies are trying to make a splash. ODU is currently 2nd in CUSA east and is now bowl eligible after whipping Marsha. With ODU in and the 49ers on the verge, does that leave Texas St and UTSA as the only 2 new kids to not play in a bowl since moving up, assuming UNCC gets to 6?

Charlotte is making progress. But Southern Miss is also looking like a pretty big disappointment.

No need to diminish their win against USM or Marsha. The Eagles weren't exactly world beaters when they beat App 2 years ago.
Looks like WKU v La Tech for the CUSA championship at this point. Those two seem like the clear favorites.

UMass also hasn't been to one.moonshine wrote:Looks like all the FBS newbies are trying to make a splash. ODU is currently 2nd in CUSA east and is now bowl eligible after whipping Marsha. UTSA actually only needs one more win to get bowl-eligible this year. They'll likely lose their next two (La. Tech and Texas A&M), but they end the season with UNCC in what could well be a winner-goes-bowling game. If they do upset LT (not unthinkable since they just blew out MTSU), they would actually be in position to make the CUSA title game by beating UNCC.

Good catch on UMASS. UTSA took MTSU to the woodshed this past weekend but MT's starting QB went out with a collarbone injury. Looks like he's done for the season.

Man there are quite a few FCS teams masquerading as FBS teams this year

You could have said the same thing about App and the Sun Belt two years ago when we turned it around.MAD Doctor wrote:Good for them, but it's a sad statement on the current status of CUSA football.

Difference is that CUSA is headed in the wrong direction.

Re: Charlotte 38 Southern Miss 27
Agreed. App beat the top dogs (ULL & stAte) of the Sun Belt on the road in 2014 to help GS win the league that season. Both conferences have some solid competitive teams and some doormats. CUSA's traditional powers (USM & Marsha) are struggling this season which has hurt the overall perception. LaTech and WKU seem to be the shoe ins for the championship at this point.T-Dog wrote:You could have said the same thing about App and the Sun Belt two years ago when we turned it around.MAD Doctor wrote:Good for them, but it's a sad statement on the current status of CUSA football.
I think what ultimately hurts CUSA in the long run is the number of teams. With the Sun Belt cutting out 2 historically struggling programs outside the footprint and going to 10 football members will help to strengthen the conference, especially if Coastal can come in and be competitive right out of the gate.
