LOL. My favorite part about this is they cheated to get Dennis Smith and they were still awful that year. What a joke of an athletic program. Hope they and Mark get hammered.

If you do the crime you should do the time....
However, I heard they gave bag money to all students not just basketball players. I think there is already a precedent set.

UNC fans should be as silent as the dead of space as this plays out. They won’t though.

I don’t think this is the same as years of systematic cheating, across all sports and the scholastic part of the institution creating fake classes to keep athletes eligible.
It’s shady and it’s wrong, but it seems to be one bad coach in one sport for a very short amount of time.
Totally different, IMO

Re: NC State Facing Level 1 NCAA Violations
NC State's alleged transgression doesn't compare to what went on at the University of Non Compliance because nothing compares to what went on at the University of Non Compliance. UNC perpetrated a generation of fraud (18 years), that not only tainted the reputation of its student athletes, but of the entire University. They spent millions during the investigation making systematic disclosures indicating that in fact the entire University was corrupt, not just working for the benefit of athletes exclusively. They sacrificed the integrity of the University itself in order to keep a hand full of banners in the Dean Dome from falling. That strategy alone is more shameful than paying Dennis Smith Jr, and that was merely the cover-up.The Rock wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 12:08 pmI don’t think this is the same as years of systematic cheating, across all sports and the scholastic part of the institution creating fake classes to keep athletes eligible.

Nothing that NCSU did could ever compare to the most pervasive, egregious academic fraud scandal in the history of the United States, which was perpetrated at UNC Chapel Hill.

Wow...it appears we have more NC State fans than UNC fans on the board. The hypocrisy is astounding.

I don’t think anyone is taking State’s side or excusing what occurred; just simply saying what state is accused of is not nearly as deep or severe as what UNC was accused ofdtrain4prez wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 2:57 pmWow...it appears we have more NC State fans than UNC fans on the board. Haha yep. The little brother syndrome is strong with many on this board. Crazy it took as lot as 5 posts before this somehow turned into a thread about UNC. We all knew it was inevitable though.CoachRob wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:25 pmYea, you can tell who grew up State fans before attending App ... Re: NC State Facing Level 1 NCAA Violations
NC State will and should fight the NCAA because everyone who complies with them gets hammered. Those who fight back get off relatively easier because the NCAA's enforcement is more bluff than anything.

NCheatSU paid good money to be relevant in basketball but it didn't work out too well for them or Coach Gott! Of course they have a history in basketball of trying to cheat and be good. Started back in the Case era, then Stormin Norman buying David Thompson and then the Jimmy V stuff!

Re: NC State Facing Level 1 NCAA Violations
Do we really have to turn cannibalistic every time others on this board don't share the same response / opinion as expected?
UNC committed the worst case (that we know of) of institutional fraud involving an NCAA athletics program EVER, spanning almost 2 decades and involving administration and academics. To compound the situation, the administration allowed the academic side of the school to be tarnished in order to stage their athletic defense. Effectively, their defense to the NCAA was that the bogus classes / degrees were available to ALL students and not just athletes. WOW. That's a high bar for any other school to clear if you're comparing "cheating" programs.
NCSU is being accused of some pretty old school cheating with the somewhat newer wrinkle of major shoe companies being involved. They are probably more likely to actually get sanctioned than UNC but I guess we will see.
Neither school is App State, so I'm going to go read a different thread now. I can't wait until 8/31. GO APPS!!!!
