ETSU is step up from App? WOW!
12-20 ETSU averaged 3126 home attendance; tops in SoCon
16-16 App State 2376; 7th in Sun Belt

Its certainly not a step down from App as far as basketball is concerned.

It’s a lateral move at best. One bid conference is a one bid conference.

If he leaves for a lateral position that says more about what App has coming back than anything.

Before I get labeled anti-Kerns as some tried in football, I hope he stays and wins big here.

What App has coming back would be indicative of Kerns and his staff recruiting. Next year will be the first year under Kerns with zero players from the Fox/Allison era. There hasn't been a season for Kerns where the best player on our roster that season was recruited by him/his own staff

Well when pay is at least 50% more, it's no longer a lateral move...

Some of you are misguided if you think he's happy to stay in Boone. He's had interest in or interviewed for a number of jobs that are anywhere from a lateral move to a small step up.
Just because he's happy doesn't mean he isn't going to interview for other opportunities...

$375 for ETSU

https://www.wataugademocrat.com/sports/ ... 26e61.html

$325 for App State

That is a 15% increase not 50%

Lateral move…………….

I agree all of those are lateral at best. If he were to make any of those moves then it tells me he isn’t committed to build his own program here and therefore is not the right man for the job at App.

If a coach comes here and is poached by a clearly superior program or materially higher income then I have no issues.

I want a guy that is serious about creating a program that has his name on it at App. Once you do that then you earned the right to take the next step up the ladder.

That's assuming they will pay him the same amount... But in order to make him move, it's going to take more than $375..

Also, have to account for assistants salary pool...

I’ve posted current facts, you’ve posted assumptions and stated them as facts.

Then attempted to move the goal posts.

Stop.

Both the programs have consistently been better regardless of money. Sounds like they pay better too. Probably easier to win in the SOCON as well. Also, SOCON coaches seem to get poached at a good clip by big schools and go on to make millions. I wonder if the fallout from the roster plays into the interviews at all. Multiple players expressed not so great opinions/situations on Kerns throughout the season and at the end. Did anything happen after the comments from Walker with Gillin and Kerns?

Right. I forgot it was against the rules to hire your next coach at a higher rate than the one you just fired....

Have to look at the situation that lead ETSU to hiring Oliver, I'm guessing they could get a better salary for someone they really wanted. Pretty obvious that was a PR plug in.

Again you stated it as a FACT that it would be a 50% raise. Got caught, keep digging.

If kerns leaves..at least the program is in much better shape for whichever coach takes his place. But i highly doubt he purses the ETSU job

I highly doubt ETSU pursues him. I suspect they will bump the pay up, and go for a bigger name, whomever that is. They have to stop the ping ponging at the position.

Theoretical interview with Coach Kerns. One of you expert insider guys play the role of coach.

"Coach Kerns can you tell us a little bit of why you think you lost so many players last year during the season?"

If the answer involves the word culture or other things like not a good fit, etc the follow up question would be:

"Coach what can you tell us that makes us believe that we won't see the same exodus here at ________ University?"

Certainly true.Perhaps the litmus test for about any job , leave it better than you found it .The record indicates he is a good coach and we have had good teams .We want a great coach and great teams. At least we say we do .I'm not sure that's true.A longtime AD once told me that the best indication of the level of support for your program is season ticket sales.Basically he said that your hard core , come what may supporters were season ticket holders. Those were the people you could count on , they were "invested in your success" .Attendance is subject to many factors , weather , kids , spouse and most of all "the bandwagon effect" but season tickets sold showed you what kind of support the program really has.I don't know how many season ticket we sell but I don't think it's a alot.Performance has likely outpaced the level of "fan support".

I believe (emphasis on believe) he pursued the JMU job, the ETSU job previously, and I think he is currently pursuing the Wofford job. I have no idea if he is interested in the current ETSU job.

Let's say (just for kicks) that we didn't charge a cent for basketball tickets. Would our average attendance increase dramatically? Is ticket cost a factor at all for our current program? I tend to think not really.
