Cocks now have 2 big TEs in the portal as the second went yesterday. I still doubt us having a chance at any of their players though.
Edit: also 4 WRs.

Players making more than their position coach, this is the NFL. The concentration of talent is going to be taken up a level.
We have done this to ourselves.

College football is no more.

I'm afraid that this will happen in high school too. They will see the $$$ and lose focus on the school work.

Couple that with the increase in roster size, it's going to get unsustainable for all but a very small few.

In the words of Bob Dylan "the times they are a changin".
It's still college football. But in a totally different format.
I agree it is with you 100%. It is awful...but interesting.

Re: SunBelt and other interesting 25 portal happenings
Some of the top players in high school never did their work, because they could play a sport. That is the real reason why so many athletes skip college and go pro, they could not do the work in college or high school. However, dollars are an incentive too.AppState89 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 1:03 pmI'm afraid that this will happen in high school too. They will see the $$$ and lose focus on the school work.

I have said it before and I will say it again....if a league pops up with no NIL, I hope we join it immediately. Even if it is Idaho, UNCC and Georgia State. This is not college football. This is semi-pro. I have no use for it.

I do not believe there is a sport or anything else, for that matter, that does not have some sort of NIL attached to it.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 2:13 pmI have said it before and I will say it again....if a league pops up with no NIL, I hope we join it immediately. When you think about it, NIL is the just the new name for "The Bag Man."

Re: SunBelt and other interesting 25 portal happenings
With the bag man, the school still had a choice. Now the "team" has been ruined. We really are pulling for our "moneyball" team, not our players. We shouldn't put a picture of the players on the advertisements/game day brochures, we should show our brain trust navigating the buy and sell of players....like a mutual fund manager. These people are the "team" now winning a game for AppState.
Just sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell....At least make the Students from the school the brain trust making the buy and sells. Give me some reason to be proud of my school on game day.

Re: SunBelt and other interesting 25 portal happenings
The US sports system is completely unique in the world. Most of the other biggest sports in the world, teams have academies that they recruit to, and have “schools” where the athletes are taught their subjects. The athletes have contracts, but they aren’t massive, and in many cases all room/board/food is covered (for the largest academies). Universities don’t have much in the way of athletics, other than club and intramural.
We’re headed towards a similar model, except the bill is footed by supporters instead of clubs. Ours will pay (over pay) more.

College sports have turned into a status symbol of deep pocket donors and the Walmart fans that buy the t-shirt.

At least he has seen the light and is getting out. Not sure why he went there to begin with. Although, somewhat odd that he is now leaving after they finally get a guy that can actually coach and might do well there.

Re: SunBelt and other interesting 25 portal happenings
How long before US sports has arrangements like the Mexican soccer league, where pro sports clubs are sponsored by universities (Pumas UNAM, for example), but other than sharing a name (and sometimes facilities), the university and the sports teams are completely unrelated.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 2:40 pmThe US sports system is completely unique in the world. Re: SunBelt and other interesting 25 portal happenings
Heard a bit of an interview with Steve Logan on Adam Gold today. In his somewhat nutty opinion he said that (used ECU as an example) a good G5 who could find a Sugar Daddy with about $3m to burn could grab some good P4 guys sitting the bench and could put out a team and “scare the hell” out of some power schools. I guess that pretty much sums it up. Find a pot of cash, go buy you a roster and hope for the best. Gee great football there.
