I would be curious to know how much he is getting because you would think they have enough freed up without Nico to pay him over 1M.

Re: UCLA football
I am seeing right about the same amount he was earning at UCLA -- so a net gain for Joey!

Re: UCLA football
Joey does not need any more motivation than what he already had.. attempting to prove he can play at Power level.
That is just mental gymnastics for fans ..blah, blah, blah

Re: UCLA football
The deal that Joey Aguilar is finalizing to go to Tennessee is similar financially to the deal that he’d previously agreed to at UCLA, per ESPN sources. He had $1.2 million left at UCLA on his deal, and his new deal at Tennessee is close to that.

Re: UCLA football
I had no clue the Tenn QB room was down to just 2 total so this could be a situation where that helped Joey get more money. He should be the starter for sure.704App wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 7:31 pmI am seeing right about the same amount he was earning at UCLA -- so a net gain for Joey!

He throws a good ball. Run the ball, control the clock and put Joey in a position where he doesn’t have to be a hero. If they ask him to make on the fly decisions he and they will struggle.

Re: UCLA football
As long as he isn't throwing to Stroman, he will be fine. Stroman didn't do him any favors.

Re: UCLA football
Kind of amazing that in this era there aren’t more college players choosing to play in states with no state tax. A million dollars less $100k makes a huge difference in my view. I know pro guys pay the jock tax. How does that work in college? If UT goes to play a game in Alabama is a player taxed in that state or would that only apply if he was actually an employee of his school?

They’ve also got a pretty easy schedule for an SEC team outside of a few games. He’s got a couple warmup games before Georgia and Bama.

Re: UCLA football
I don’t really want to wish anything bad on Joey. I understand taking the money. That said, for the sake of college football I hope both players involved in this mess have awful season and coaches go back to developing talent. 3 schools in less than a year is absolute BS.

Re: UCLA football
All coaches think they can correct issues with a player. He must think that Ponce and Clark are awful coaches to believe he can correct it in the SEC while they could not correct it in the Sun Belt. This will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Re: UCLA football
I 100% don't blame players for taking the money. I blame the system. I do think developing a QB is better. If either of them has a slow start or has a bad year then you can imagine the pressure on the coaches for these decisions.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 11:57 amI don’t really want to wish anything bad on Joey. Re: UCLA football
I didn't have a problem with Joey, don't think he cost us any games with mistakes that I can remember. Wish him Luck! It would be cool to see him successful in Knoxville and bring home that trophy.
Would we be able to claim him our heisman winner if he did pull something like that off? Long odds though

Re: UCLA football
That is interesting for a couple reasons. Clearly UCLA views Nico as better since they swapped QBs but players in the south tend to have better odds than those on the west coast. I don't see either of them winning the Heisman.

Re: UCLA football
They do not think that and so do the fans.
On Reddit some Tennessee fan said Joey was going to get actual development for the 1st time in his college career lol.
