Re: Billy Napier Fired
Few people have said it was well as Paul Finebaum:
“It was long overdue, he (Napier) was a complete failure as a coach.”

Good ole Paul Finebaum. I’m happy that he has a platform to express his pent up rage from being the last kid picked for kickball.

Finebaum, Stephen A. Smith, Beano Cook....all IMO nothing but blow-hard talking heads. Why anyone would regard their opinions is beyond me. I know Beano is no longer with us but I never figured out why he was considered a guru.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Beano Cook. There’s a name from the past. He always found a way to say something about Penn State.scatman77 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 8:08 amFinebaum, Stephen A. If I were Kiffin and Drink i would stay put. Both are in rare territory for both programs and potential longevity at both. Not sure if Florida is fixable by anyone anytime soon.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
It’s sort of like the situation with Cignetti, isn’t it? Kiffin is building his own thing in Oxford and it’s going really well. There will be additional compensation, but it isn’t as much of a factor because he’s already banking life-changing money at Ole Miss.
Why go to another school with unrealistic fans/boosters and crazy expectations? “But it’s UF” some might say. So what? The Gators have been terrible for a long time; it isn’t like UF has a ton of prestige versus other programs anymore.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
Not saying UF is the answer, however, if he continues to win,.. but doesn't get the Natty... He may think the only difference is getting me more NIL so I am stacked at most or all positions... Coach thinking I got the playbook... Just missing the complete team... The ultimate goal is a natty at that level for the coach... So, it may come into play of promised more resources.
For me, I would stay in sleepy little Oxford and be a hero to see if I could be a legend and win the Natty.
We shall see how it plays out.
On the flip side.. who wants o stay long term in a Bloomington? Anyone, anyone.. buehler?

Re: Billy Napier Fired
Finebaum has no clue about the “ state” of football anywhere but Alabama. He and other experts could us their platforms to push for some rules and guardrails for the NIL and the portal.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
Like many of the ESPN “personalities,”Finebaum is an attention hound and more of an entertainer than a true football analyst.
That being said, does anyone here disagree with him re: Napier’s flameout in Gainesville?

Re: Billy Napier Fired
Napier was doomed to fail. The big Gator donors only have patience for his lord and savior Steve Spurrier. Anyone else is not good enough. How many coaches have they gone through in the last decade since Urban?

Re: Billy Napier Fired
if Kiffin goes to UF the UT fans will really be &$&%....make this a bigger rivalry and will probably throw dozens of golf balls when they play each other.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
Everyone's situation is different and changes throughout time. So Bloomington may be the right fit currently. I mean if Jerry Moore had been chasing the money he would not have stayed in Boone all these years and you would not see him on campus now.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 3:42 pmNot saying UF is the answer, however, if he continues to win,.. but doesn't get the Natty... You can only spend so much money and if you do not spend it all someone else will spend it for you.
I once head an Alabama player once say that the fans he hated the most when he played were Alabama Fans because of their unrealistic expectations.
I really think gambling is what is causing most of the turmoil not NIL or the transfer portal. It is not like we were not warned in the movie The Kast Boy scout.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
Totally disagree that he was doomed to fail. Napier was given everything he wanted. They DOUBLED the coaching pool salary from the year before under Mullen despite refusing to increase it for Mullen. He was given great resources that other coaches did not have. When Mullen got there, UF didn't even have a modern football facility, the ice baths were in large Rubbermaid garbage cans outside. Napier benefited from the opening of their football facility which is super nice (read- helps recruiting). Napier had resources and opportunity, he just can't coach and every game he will make a bad coaching call that if the other team is good enough, will cost his team a victory. I saw it repeatedly at ULL and again at UF. Dude is a bust. I do agree that nobody will ever measure up to Spurrier but the dude won a Heisman and a bunch of SEC titles and a Natty for them, so tough shoes to fill.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
I cannot speak to Florida and resources. However, I can speak to my views on ull and play calling. He lost some games to App due to play calling... And tried to lose some games due to play calling.. but got lucky and won.

Re: Billy Napier Fired
No problem. We can agree to disagree on Billy’s abilities Following a legend is difficult in its own right but the legend of Steve Spurrier haunts everyone, other than Meyer that has tried to coach there. Did McElwain get more resources than Muschamp? Did Mullen get more than McElwain? How does a “blue blood” wannabe program get out-resourced?t4pizza wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 12:39 pmTotally disagree that he was doomed to fail. Napier was given everything he wanted. Look at App. Everyone still wants the next Armanti to QB the team. Loggains is getting more resources than his predecessor. More resources isn’t going to guarantee success.
