As a poor guy who married into a family full of Marshall grads (except my bride who has three degrees from ASU), I can say with an almost straight face that MU has, does and always will specialize in "really unusual setups."EastHallApp wrote:WVAPPeer wrote:"67 years old"

That at an age when most coaches are nearing retirement, he's starting a job that 1) he's never done before, and 2) requires convincing recruits that he'll be there at least 4-6 years, at a program that looks like a multi-year rebuilding job.
Did not realize Mike D'antoni was keeping the Lakers job, and I'm still not sure that's a done deal. However, if it's true Dan's just there to keep the seat warm for little bro, that might make more sense, although it would be a really unusual setup.
That means he has a vast storehouse of knowledge and is superior to most other applicants.WVAPPeer wrote:"67 years old"

What a joke! This simply means that Marshall followed the *old and unsuccessful* Harrill-Cobb Coach Employment Manual in trying to hire a head basketball coach. It's really not surprising that MU would find a way to set back university hiring practices for 20 years. It is surprising that they'd adopt the Harrill-Cobb method for use--given its notable failure.77SU wrote:In case anyone got lost in the MU coaching search shuffle, here's the shortened version:

I almost can't believe they offered the job to Neubauer and then withdrew the offer before the guy could get to Huntington. Then, after he got back to his office at EKU, MU called to re-offer him the job. I say *almost* because after all, this is Marshall. You'd expect an incompetent, unethical circus.Unreal. I'm betting Neubauer really, really enjoyed telling them where they could stuff their job.
I suppose it also means that Dan D'Antoni will spend the next three weeks recruiting in S.Carolina--since that's where he had some contacts way back when...Good luck with that! All those coaches he knew *way back when* are now retired.
Nah...we youngin's would never do such a thing. Especially to you, el Presidente!WVAPPeer wrote:Sounds like ELDER ABUSE to meASUMountaineer wrote:That's he's past retirement age?WVAPPeer wrote:"67 years old"

Marshall will hire D'Antoni
April 24 2014
Marshall will hire Dan D'Antoni, brother of Mike, as their next head coach to replace Tom Herrion. D'Antoni was an assistant with the LA Lakers. He is an alum of the school. Our one cent: Wow. It would be difficult to find someone outside of the Marshall athletic department or D'Antoni family that thinks this is a good idea.
