Have to give UNCC credit for incredible progress made to bring D1 football to reality in such short order. Beautiful new football stadium, built with expansion in mind, leap right into CUSA, now they announce h&h with in-state ACC.

Re: Charlotte-Carolina FB H&H
Half-empty is a bit of a stretch, but too many empty student seats for certain. Thank goodness those seats are paid for! This is why we have booked H&Hs with Duke, Temple, Carolina and another biggie to be named later. That will put cheeks in the seats. The entertainment value of playing Campbell and Gardner-Webb can hardly be compared to Marshall and ODU, or Duke, Carolina, and yes, App State. FCS Independent is a tough road, but we are at the very beginning of lining up what is going to be a much better product.Gonzo wrote:That seems unnecessary given the pictures I've seen. JRS is only 15,000 or so and it was half empty for most of games last season.

Thank you. It's nice to be noticed.Yosef10 wrote:AppinVA wrote:They don't need it, as they don't fill up what they have to the point of folks hanging out of buildings, off trees and willing to pay full price to sit on a muddy hill 50 yards away from the near goal line. Silver is seen during the third quarter in the upper corner toward the end zone, and it doesn't matter that those are the band seats, and they're on a break -- no one is there willing to fill that space for 15 minutes. And until everyone remains in the stands up until their band's version of The Waltz, there is no reason to even begin planning for expansion.DoubleA wrote:So what are the details and timeline for Richardson Stadium expansion?![]()
Isn't that how this is supposed to go?
Unfortunately you see A LOT more "silver" at KBS than just when the band steps away for 15 minutes. Nice troll attempt though.
Honest question though. They are averaging, I'd say, approximately 10,000 butts in seats, which is around 2/3 full. What say you on expansion for them? They do have Duke and CHeat on the schedule.

I'm just going to assume the other biggie you're referring to is Maryland, since we've seen that name tossed around as a team we've had good discussions with. ECU would be the other possibility, and I think I'd enjoy watching Stilljonesing's head explode over that as much as I'd actually enjoy watching the game.Nugget49 wrote:Half-empty is a bit of a stretch, but too many empty student seats for certain. Re: Charlotte-Carolina FB H&H
Honestly, I admit I was a little jealous upon first reading this. But then I realized, their scheduling success is helped by how far out they're booking games. Their home games with Duke and UNC are six and 10 years out, respectively. We already have Marshall booked for '21, and no home games scheduled past '22. So we could well have comparable games by that time.
Meanwhile UNCC's best OOC home game before '21 is... us. Other than that, they're bringing in the Georgia States, UMasses, and Eastern Michigans of the world, while we have ODU, Wake and Southern Miss (in addition to some lesser games).
None of that is meant to downplay their scheduling success - they should be pleased with that. But it did make me feel OK about where we are.

Yes SJ and his ilk would be on suicide watch if the Pirates signed a h&h with Charlotte, especially if they had to come the QC first. It would be in similar fashion to how herdzone reacted to signing a h&h with the first game in Boone.
Congrats on getting the hill to come in! Hopefully Judy put the buyout at an astronomical number so that if they tuck tail and run the 49ers will get a nice paycheck.

Most likely our stadium will never see 40K. I would be shocked. That's just the new reality of college football attendance.
It is going to take a long time to build up that kind of institutional loyalty to the football team, the kind that App and ECU enjoy today.
I believe what you will see is a small expansion to get us over 20k to allow for packing in the big games.
I was told by the athletic ticket office a long time ago that they can add in sections of around 5000 each. Not sure how that jives with the 40K picture but I know it's modular.

Re: Charlotte-Carolina FB H&H
Meanwhile, Georgia Southern just announced a game at Indiana for 2017, with no return game or neutral site game.
That gives them three OOC road games in both 2016 and 2017. Their only future home games so far are Savannah State next year, UMass in '18 and Kent St. in '19.
Keep cashin' dem checks, Southern.

Don't they need to expànd now for future demand?Gonzo wrote:That seems unnecessary given the pictures I've seen. JRS is only 15,000 or so and it was half empty for most of games last season.

Not really, their avg attendance was 13,272 and their stadium holds 15,314 which would be about 87% capacity. Starting to see the difference between real and reported attendance?Gonzo wrote:They had a near empty stadium for most of the year....Yosef10 wrote:That.
