And as far as complaining about our limited bowl choices... I get it, but we've only been to one bowl game so far. Maybe we should get a couple trips in to NOLA and Orlando (and heck, maybe a visit to Mobile) before we gripe about too much of the same ol' same ol'.

I agree, the trip to Montgomery was great. We had a blast and the game was great. Only complaint I had was the stadium is very old and just high school like. The field and video board were nice and looked good on TV though. Would love Mobile or NOLA as well. Orlando I would watch on TV. It's funny how we go from one extreme to the other on here. One day we are P5 material next day we suck and are lucky to beat GASt. As always the truth is in the middle.EastHallApp wrote:And as far as complaining about our limited bowl choices... ODU is 3-0 in CUSA and just 2 wins from being bowl eligible with a 4-2 record.

Re: Tennessee: Luckiest Team in Football
If you're going to make that point it should be worth mentioning who they beat to get to 4-2. Making a bowl game is not a tough task with today's scheduling practices. Had we not scheduled two P5 schools and replaced Miami with a FCS team we too would be two games away from being Neil eligible. 3-1 OOC which means you have to beat less than half of your conference opponents to make a bowl. Essentially and it's happen in the past, you can have a losing conference record and make a bowl. My point is that the bowl system is so watered down which greatly explains why there are many blow outs.hapapp wrote:ODU is 3-0 in CUSA and just 2 wins from being bowl eligible with a 4-2 record.

I wonder and if anyone knows please inform us all. What was or is the deciding factor for which bowl we select? Pretend we have first pick.EastHallApp wrote:And as far as complaining about our limited bowl choices... I get it, but we've only been to one bowl game so far. Distance, pay out, potential opponent strength?

Their real test comes next week against Western Kentucky. They are one win from matching their win total from last year. Like us, they've beaten who they were supposed to beat to this point./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:If you're going to make that point it should be worth mentioning who they beat to get to 4-2. Re: Tennessee: Luckiest Team in Football
Teams don't select bowls, bowls select teams, though team preference is considered. It's mostly about how many fans we can bring. I think TV ratings would also be a consideration, but I'm not sure there's much difference there among Sun Belt teams./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:I wonder and if anyone knows please inform us all. Payout doesn't matter because it goes to the league, not the school.

Thanks for that insight. Not sure why I thought we picked.EastHallApp wrote:Teams don't select bowls, bowls select teams, though team preference is considered. Agree with the bowl system being too watered down. The teams ODU has beat have exactly 1 win each. A combined record of 4-15./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:If you're going to make that point it should be worth mentioning who they beat to get to 4-2. Re: Tennessee: Luckiest Team in Football
Come on folks. Our schedule this year was pretty darn good. The difference between 10-2 and 8-4 is negligible for ANY G5 team as long as the 8 wins are in conference. In any given year there are only one or two teams with a valid shot at making the New Years game. For everybody else, their bowl game defaults to the conferences agreements. That's also true for the vast majority of P5 teams who don't make the playoffs. Complaining about our schedule seems pretty ridiculous in only our THIRD year playing an FBS schedule. Setting expectations on the playoffs is not a legit goal for now.
Back to the topic...I find myself in the difficult position of hoping Tennessee wins games. I grew up pulling for Georgia, so any support of Tennessee just feels WRONG. It benefits App though, so I'm hoping they pull of the long shot against A&M. I do think they are a decent team but they were over rated at the beginning of the year and have lived on a prayer all season.

I am a firm believer that in most cases you make your own luck. We had an equal chance to recover that ball in the end zone. They did a better job of doing that.

Unreal, fumble on wide open run to the end zone. Then several big plays and the game is tied. Wow

They have 6 turnovers in this game + another fumble of their own they recovered.bcoach wrote:They are NOT lucky, they are good.
Missed chipshot game winner. Fumble out of endzone on the 1...
Yeah... they are LUCKY. That horseshoe is DEEP!

Never been a believer in luck. I believe more in statistical probability and fortune. They have beaten statistical probability and are very fortunate.

How important is a kicker? Well from the other side of the ball just ask Tennessee.

It was a fumble because Tennessee punched it out. That was no accidentAppDawg wrote:They have 6 turnovers in this game + another fumble of their own they recovered.bcoach wrote:They are NOT lucky, they are good.
