Not sure Houston has what it takes, but they seem to want to make a game of this. Driving in the final seconds of the 3rd trailing 31-20.

Houston looks rough. I’ve watched bits and pieces of SMu this season, but after a good look tonight, their defense is porous. They have a nice up tempo offense, but I almost liken them to Louisiana.

Don't look now but Houston with a long TD pass and 2 point conversion to bring it within one score at 31-34 with 4:47 left in the game.

Agree...I know this is a rivalry game (and anything can happen in those), but I’d like our chances against them on any field.

They have 5-6 really good players but so do we. We could definitely beat them. It would be a good game. I know for sure they are not a top 15 team though. Regardless, if they keep winning they will be the team ESPN talks about as a NY6 contender. I still say no reason to sweat these games until after November 9th. We will know for sure if we are a real contender and by then I think 1-2 of these G5 contenders around us could lose one by then.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:06 pmAgree...I know this is a rivalry game (and anything can happen in those), but I’d like our chances against them on any field.

20 seconds down 3, doesn’t look good. But should this be looked at that they shouldn’t be this close?

It’s not super impressive but it’s not THAT bad, esp. on the road. If we’re honest with ourselves, I expect most folks on this board would be pretty happy if App were to beat Houston by 3.
The game where they had to come from way behind to beat Tulsa at home was worse imo.

Not too worried, they'll get taken care of in conference. They're not that good.

I still maintain that IF we win out that we will pass them. We will have 2 good P5 wins and nobody else in G5 can say that. SMU beat TCU but that would be their only P5 win, and I really believe that the committee would value a win over South Carolina as more impressive.

This is why we need the AAC to beat up on each other more though. They don’t just have to rely on P5 wins. As it stands now, the winner of SMU-Memphis will add another top 25 win, and the conference title game could well be between two ranked teams also. Meanwhile all our league has to offer is ULL.t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:21 pmI still maintain that IF we win out that we will pass them. Yes, the title game may feature two ranked teams but they will not be two undefeated teams. SMU is the biggest concern but after watching them I don't believe the committee will put them ahead of us if we beat the Gamecocks. With the caveat that the committee is supposed to watch the games and not just look at the box score. If they watch how we play, and if we stay undefeated (which is a huge if) than I think we jump all other G5s because we will be undefeated with 2 quality P5 wins and no other G5 school in the conversation will be able to say that.

SMU is overrated. UH beat themselves last night, too many penalties and silly turnovers

I don't think the G5 wants SMU representing them as the best G5 team in the NY6. They'll get wasted by a decent P5 team.

Re: SMU at Houston, tonight on ESPN
The only real legit win SMU has is TCU (ranked 25th at the time). TCU has subsequently fallen to 3-3 and will probably go maybe 5-7. SMU avoids Central Florida apparently. They should have boat raced Houston last night if the records are legit.

I'd call beating Temple by 24 a pretty good win. In any case I don't think we can make much of an argument that App has better wins than they do. Maybe you could argue that UNC is the best win either team has.

Re: SMU at Houston, tonight on ESPN
For us to even be in the NY6 game conversation, we have to be undefeated. That includes beating USC. Beating a team that took down UGA ranked as high as they were at the time would definitely be the best win between these 2 schoolsEastHallApp wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 8:04 amI'd call beating Temple by 24 a pretty good win.
