It didn't go the way he would have liked. I would like to see him get a second chance. If that makes me a bad guy then I am proud to be one. Nothing to let go of. Of all the second chances the man has given I think he deserves at least one.
Some might say that Appalachian gave him a second chance by hiring him in the first place...
Or perhaps when he asked for one more year after the 2011 season and it was granted for the 2012 season... We gave him a second chance, he just wanted a third.

Well I guess we know which side of the ball just can't let it go. Any well wishes are just not acceptable to some people. Hope you guys never need a second or even a "third" chance.

Or again after 2004, when he was rumored to be on the precipice of termination. Coaching is full of second/third/innumerable chances.
Give 'em hell!

He got a 2nd chance when he was hired, a third chance after the 2004 season, and then an option for the 2012 season.

Sorry just saw beau posted the same thing. Everyone here is very greatful for Coach Moore, he deserves a statue, a parade etc for what he did for App, but to say he wasn't treated fairly as a whole while he was here seems misguided.

What was that about letting go?

To imply that was said here is very misguided. This started by simply wishing him well and you guys just can't accept that. Wishing him well in the future just eats at you guys. You take it as some type of challenge. No matter what happened in the past I wish him well in the future and I would love to see him win a championship. I would love for him to retire when he is ready. What makes this even better is that it just makes you guys crazy.

No doubt most Coach Moore related news divides the board/fan base. Which is the reason this thread will likely go on for another three pages.

I'm sorry, but this just does apply in the college football coaching profession. Coaches are let go at the drop of a hat everywhere and they all know thats a possibility before taking the job.

Cobb and co. could have easily cut ties in 2011 (and in 2004 for that matter) but gave the man another year when he asked for it. There are few athletics departments around the country that would do that. I understand Coach Moore earned that right to ask for and be granted another year. When one person can control the whole department and program, problems will occur. The athletics department gave Moore one more year -- he just wanted more after he was granted that year.

No this started because you said the following...
bcoach wrote:I would love to see him win another championship and go out on his own terms.
I think you would be hard pressed to find someone on this board that does not agree with the first part of this sentence. It was the dig in the second part of the sentence that started this.

The dig is in your mind not mine. He did not go out on his own terms whether what happened was right or wrong. I no longer care. I just wish he could get a do over. As hard as you try to make this a controversy it just is not going to work. I am talking about the future not the past. You are just so sensitive about the subject you see a dig where there is none.

Not trying to make it a controversy at all! What is done, is done. I am not sensitive to the subject at all. I would wager that most of us on this board would see that as a dig to the athletics administration.

The bottom line is one man cannot be bigger than the entire program and department. No matter how you spin it, if he was let go on "his own terms" that is exactly what would happen. I understand the desire to allow him to do that with his history and legendary status. But, when push comes to shove, when your boss says "ok, you have one more year" that does not mean "you have one more year unless you ask for another one and I will grant it."

I will stop discussing this now. It is obvious neither one will change the others opinion. Believe me, I understand your side. I was on it until the facts came out. At the end of the day, I wish the man well and love him as a coach and person! If he's given another chance, I hope he takes it and succeeds as we all know he can.

Here is the whole deal in a nutshell. I am not trying to change anyone's mind. I am just wishing him well. Does not matter how many considered what I said a dig. The number that thought so would be the number that was wrong. If you will notice I have made no mention of whether it was right or wrong. You keep bringing up the same old tired statements. I really don't care anymore. All I have said is that I hope he wins and goes out the way he would rather go out. If you really do love the guy you should wish the same. You are trying to win an argument that does not exist.

Cental is spot on what started the conversation down the rabbit hole yet again.

I wish him and his entire family well.

As Central pointed out you had to add in "go out on his terms" which you know was a dig at our administration for not keeping him for another year. He asked for another year after 2011 and was given exactly that, but then he tried to change the terms after the deal was done. It's over and done with now, and I think everyone here wishes him well. Well maybe not Norton but everyone else.

It seems to me that "his own terms" would be to go out without controversy, ambiguity, and unknowns.

Me too, but that's his own fault as he was the only party that "forgot", "never understood" or otherwise "didn't get" the terms he was given. Terms which I think were very gracious and commensurate with a person of his stature.

JT, I do wish JM well at what ever/where ever he choses. My glasses are more black than gold/yellow.

That is exactly right but some just can't let go. Some try to tell you what you mean because they know it all. Again just very sensitive to the subject. They try to defend positions that have not been questioned.

That option was on the table until he changed the terms.

Coach Moore didn't "forget", he just assumed Cobb wouldn't pull the trigger. Ooops! That being said, Coach will always be THE mountaineer and, to date, the best coach ASU has ever had. Thanks for everything, but it's time to move on.
