I don't think it's a common choice. Kids choose UNCC when their NC State and Appalachian rejection letters come.APPARJ wrote:Picking between App and UNC-C can be as simple as this:
Love concrete and want to live among thousands of people who are 20 minutes from their parents? Pick UNC-C.
Love beautiful scenery want to live in the best college town in the country? Pick App State.
An individual's preference is subjective but even if I wanted to pursue engineering (which is a completely legitimate reason for choosing a specific school), I'd prefer NC State over UNC-C out of the NC System.Gonzo wrote:I don't think it's a common choice. Well I cannot speak to kickass143's son's reasoning but I flew back from Las Vegas on Friday next to two really nice young men from just outside of Hickory that go to NCSU. They are both engineering students, and one of them is transferring to Charlotte in the fall because he wants to focus on energy production engineering and Charlotte has a better program for that. Co-ops and internships are critical these days when it comes to landing jobs, and Charlotte is home to quite a few companies in this field including Duke Energy which is where this young man wants to work. That is his reasoning. Duke Energy employees more engineers from UNC Charlotte than NCSU.APPARJ wrote:An individual's preference is subjective but even if I wanted to pursue engineering (which is a completely legitimate reason for choosing a specific school), I'd prefer NC State over UNC-C out of the NC System.Gonzo wrote:I don't think it's a common choice. Would factors like wanting to be close to home due to an illness in the family or a scholarship sway my decision if I were from the Charlotte area (I'm not)? Yes. But all things being equal, why do people go to UNC-C?
Thanks for the info. Didn't know the difference between the two engineering programs. This helps.Nugget49 wrote:Well I cannot speak to kickass143's son's reasoning but I flew back from Las Vegas on Friday next to two really nice young men from just outside of Hickory that go to NCSU. Motorsports is a $2 billion industry in the Charlotte area, and we have an engineering program geared towards it that is nationally recognized. Graduates also move into the auto industry in general. I could tell you we have an excellent engineering program in precision metrology and nanoscale science but I am afraid you might ask me some questions, and I would be lost. Let's just say that Charlotte engineers get good jobs and make a healthy living. That is why I suspect many of them go there.

So serious stuff ka, if you need any information about the University, or the area around it come visit us at NinerNation.Net. We have a pretty wide range of posters and can give you the current student perspective, or the parent's perspective.kickass143 wrote:Ugh
