Re: Satt Done at UL?
UL would be fools to turn this comment into a reason to get rid of a solid coach.
Everyone knows there are less than 20 jobs that aren’t stepping stones and UL ain’t one of them.

Re: Satt Done at UL?
Louisville clearly thinks they are not a stepping stone job and to be honest they are really about equal to NC State and South Carolina. All 3 of those jobs pay well and have resources but they are tougher to win at and could easily see a HC leave if he gets an offer somewhere closer to home or more money from a SEC or top tier ACC program.
As to you saying less than 20 jobs. There may be less than 10 that are not stepping stones. I would say right now if you are at Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, and Ohio State you have crazy resources and should not look anywhere else but outside of that you could climb a little higher so yeah there aren't a ton of those jobs.

I agree. Doesn’t Jay Bilas have some basketball takes he could be making? Seems like the main basketball school in that state is off to their worst start in 20 years?appdaze wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 6:01 pmHe is unfortunate to be there when they are already under the microscope for other reasons only amplifying the viewership of his comments. His name getting thrown around at SC. Being at an ACC school. Him just asking for a raise after a 3-7 season. It being a slow news day outside of two nfl games and James harden not showing up to practice. His comments don't deserve national attention, but he couldn't have picked a worse time to make these comments. I don't think he meant anything bad with them at all but I also don't think he understood how they would be taken.

If he was from GA and he talked to GT or if he was from KY and talked to Louisville I don't think you can get mad at a raise and getting closer to him. I think we should all understand that. We have folks who got upset at him going to Louisville and Drink going to Missouri but those were major pay increases so I think all of us would have done the same thing.

Re: Satt Done at UL?
agreed. Spurrier and Holtz took it as a part-time job while in retirement. Lol
Although on the more difficult side of the ACC overall IMO, it seems you can win at some level easier at UL than at USC with Clemson and Georgia geographically close for recruiting.

i'd take $3.5MM to live in Louisville over $4.0+MM to live in Colombia. It's a graveyard and Colombia is a terrible town IMO.

Re: Satt Done at UL?
I’ll never know what’s it like to make $3.5m or so per year and none of us can truly know what it’s like being a big time football coach. As far as wanting to be closer to family that is all different for each of us. My parents are in their 80’s and live in the same city as me but I am not at their house every day (certainly not during COVID times). I’m thinking though if was living a flight away and had that much discretionary income I could fly my wife home pretty much whenever she wanted.

Next time Jimmy Sexton teaches a class to all of his signees about how to give a press conference, this will be played on how NOT to speak. It was like watching a train wreck, couldn't look away. Just kept digging deeper and deeper. reading their message board, a .500 season next year wont get it done!

I think there is a lot of pearl clutching, and message boards don't necessarily represent the majority of the fan base. Message boards are full of drama queens and the perpetual complainers.App91 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:30 amNext time Jimmy Sexton teaches a class to all of his signees about how to give a press conference, this will be played on how NOT to speak. Re: Satt Done at UL?
I agree but this is about the family wanting to be closer to home so they would have gladly taken it. She would not let him turn down any raise to be half the distance from home. If any P5 in NC or SC comes calling they would jump on it. Remember that their son is at WCU now as well so it would be easier to see him play if they were in NC.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:54 ami'd take $3.5MM to live in Louisville over $4.0+MM to live in Colombia. While true about being a flight away... but, somebody has to take care of the kids while Satt is working 80+ hours a week in season...bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:26 amI’ll never know what’s it like to make $3.5m or so per year and none of us can truly know what it’s like being a big time football coach. Re: Satt Done at UL?
Are people really this tore out the frame over this? Not telling your AD I get. But Hugh freeze came out and basically said he’d take the Tennessee job if offered. The whole loyalty thing all seems to be lip service at this point. Kids leave at the drop of a hat because they aren’t starting and everyone applauds them for “pursuing” their dreams. A coach is candid about his personal situation and he’s destroyed by everyone. Personally I have way more problems with people like Buzz Peterson saying that he’s here forever then literally jumping ship in the cover of darkness. People may not like Satterfield’s bluntness but him being honest shouldn’t completely be held against him.

Re: Satt Done at UL?
I mean... If I'm Satt (and I'm not), and Louisville really wanted to fire me after on bad, rebuilding season and a rough press conference, I'd say, "please." He's made $6.5 million over two years and would have a buyout in the hundreds of thousands if not million dollar range. I'd be tickled pinker than the slip they gave me as I ran out the door to go coach somewhere else.

Re: Satt Done at UL?
I'm still confused about how what he said was so bad. Tell me if I'm missing something, but didn't he basically say, "Most of our guys are only here for 4 years. So they are just looking at this place as a stepping stone to the next thing, and focus on making it successful while they are here.. The coaches have to think about how to keep that success going for 10, 20, 30 years. On top of that, the coaches have families and other adult responsibilities." Is that really that controversial?Seattleapp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:50 amAre people really this tore out the frame over this? Not telling your AD I get. If family was an issue he wouldn’t have gone in the first place.....and Craig is right...he didn’t say anything that isn’t true. Stay at Louisville and honor your commitment Satt.

Re: Satt Done at UL?
It is very hard to turn down that type of money. People I know close to the family said Beth never wanted to leave but it is hard to turn down that money when you can be set for life. Since leaving I'm sure Beth misses the short drive apart from family. I'm also sure with NCAA investigations, the riots in Louisville, etc have them wanting to get back to Carolinas as well.
Louisville could fire him before the contract is up. Part of Scott's commitment is that if he leaves before they want to fire him that he would have a buyout. I have no issue with what Scott said and I have no doubt that if a P5 job comes open close by that he would listen and come back home.
He could always keep talking and make them want to fire him so he gets the remaining $$ on contract and then come be our OC next year. LOL

$750k and living in the high country...$3.5mil at the L. Money can buy a lot but not everything in life. Be blessed with what you have. There will always be someone with more and others with less.
