My statement did start this, but I did not. On his own terms had nothing to do with a dig at the administration because in my mind I don't really know what happened. The kind (and I believe that) extension that was given to coach was not put into writing so in my mind only two people really know what was said. I place equal blame for that with administration and coach. It would be hard for me to throw a dig at one if I believe they were both equally wrong. I simply wish coach well and would love for him to retire on the shoulders of his team after winning a national championship. He did not leave "on his own terms" and I wish he could have no matter who was at fault. I now wish he could have another chance no matter what the heck happened in the past or who was to blame.

I viewed it as a dig, thanks for explaining further what you meant.

Could it have been handled differently, absolutely by both parties.

I only hope Coach gives the admins what they wish they could do in his honor going forward. How nice would it have been to announce it before the season and have a farewell tour? But I understand why he didn't want that.

If I had $5M for the stadium naming rights it would be Moore Brewer.

I think bcoach's point is that Jerry didn't want to retire, regardless of what the admin did. I'm not arguing that the change wasn't necessary nor am I arguing that he should have been allowed to coach forever. Going out on his own terms, meant leaving when he wanted to. That wasn't in the cards and clearly our admin thought the time had arrived. I don't disagree with the decision. But, it wasn't Jerry's decision to retire.
