Do you think they are gonna break up the bigger conferences to create more conferences? And if you do that and say ALL conference Champs get the auto bid, do you increase the number of teams? If not you are still gonna be leaving out 11 win sec teams for a mac school to get inAppWyo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 6:20 pmIf they really wanted the best teams in the playoffs all you would have to do is win your conference championship to be in the playoffs. Why am I the only one that can see this? The beauty of this is that it would stabilize the conferences. It might even cause conferences to be more regional; the conferences may even get smaller where everyone plays everyone in their conference to determine the conference champion. It might even force Notre Dame to join a conference in football.
I just do not want Appalachian to be relegated to another IAA or FCS.

The conference champions were not the best teams in the nation. That’s their point.

And now so many of those students aren’t getting a degree and they aren’t making any meaningful relationships. I know App. student athletes who got jobs because of the relationships they made with App. graduates. If players jump from school to school those relationships are gone. Even in today’s environment the vast majority of football players won’t go pro, won’t leave school with a bunch of money and now they won’t get meaningful degrees or build meaningful relationships.Stonewall wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 4:12 pmI don’t have the answer. Perhaps it comes down to the lesser of negative impacts. One of my disappointments is the loss of even the concept of student first , athlete second. I know so many who used their athletic abilities to earn an education and change generations with it that otherwise would have had no opportunity.

Apples and oranges in my mind.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 3:52 pmguitarstrat82 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 2:25 pmAgain I maintain g6 playoffs are a wishful pipe dream. Absolutely nothing will change in terms of players opting out early due to their agents saying they should stay healthy for p4 nil deals.
Tv slots will be bad and will be scheduled during other big sporting events and no one will watch just like fcs playoffs.
Sponsors will be few and far between and it will be a financial impact felt by all schools participating.
And regardless at the end of the year we lose the whole team and coaches to the portal.
G6 playoff is like a bandaid thats placed no where near the wound.
We should be fighting for the real fixes CFB needs and coming together with the rest of the g6 to lobby our interests, not rolling over and letting espn make us more irrelevant.
I disagree. Both fcs semi finals are on national tv today.

Re: G6 playoff gaining momentum
Win your conference championship game and you are in the playoffs. The runner up of the championship game for the p4 is in as well. Why is that so complicated to understand? The committee should only decide who the at large bids are. Remember, Notre Dame, The Ohio State, and Alabama can lose every game, they are still two of the best teams every year.311neers wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 6:40 pmToo many teams. Not all conferences will ever be the same like the NFL. NFL forces teams to essentially play everyone to get a more pure winner.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 6:20 pmIf they really wanted the best teams in the playoffs all you would have to do is win your conference championship to be in the playoffs. They just need to take the top 12 teams in the ranking. Seems pretty simple to me.

The matchup comparison should include nil money spent in the year these days.

Maybe that is what it is all really about. The P4's need to justify the amount of money spent.
I saw a pod cast where if the G6 is not the same as the P4 then why are you taking G6 players and G6 coaches? Which of course I cannot find at the present.

How anyone can watch this and NOT want G6 playoffs is beyond me.
“Nooo, we will be second class citizens!!”
Buddy, we already are.
This JMU team beat us by 50 and are gonna get laughed off the field at halftime.

Re: G6 playoff gaining momentum
The 2 games today make it very, very, very clear that the best of the G6 can’t compete with the best of the P4. I don’t see how the G6 survives under the current circumstances.

Re: G6 playoff gaining momentum
The only reason G5 is included now is to avoid antitrust lawsuits. After this year, look for the P4 to propose something that shares some CFP money with the G5 and maybe creates something that guarantees national broadcast opportunities in exchange for the G5 not getting in the CFP.

I had basically said the same thing before and some criticized my opinion saying that “at least we would make it”. I simply can’t imagine why you would want a fantastic season (say 13-1 or so), get all excited about the game and get completely destroyed on national television. Nope no thanks.

They will likely limit it to one G6 as the bottom seed , whatever number it might be.

Insert the “More more more” Meme.
But also, the “make it stop” meme.
