Terry Holland probably doesn't fire Ruffin unless there's a reason that most of us can't see.
Terry Holland is not the ECU AD.

I know.

Terry Holland hired him.

Terry Holland is no longer the ECU AD.

Hence...

As I reread my post, I see how I didn't make that clear, though. Should've broken up that last sentence.
The funny part about TH not being the AD there anymore is that ECU forced him out too after he was the one responsible for making moves to bring them to a respectable athletic department. He wanted to bring the Pirate Club under the Athletics Department but of course the big wig donors didn't want that to happen so they forced him out.

Just wanted to throw that out there as prior evidence of the cloud of delusion that hangs around some factions of pirate fans. The firing of Ruffin only furthers that point. There are good pirate fans out there...but there's nothing worse than the absolutely delusional pirate fans. It appears their current AD and some of their biggest boosters falls in the category of delusional pirates.

I doubt Satt is interested in leaving at this point.... He's got a really good thing building and going with App. App to ECU.. doesn't strike me as a "step up"... Satt keeps doing what he's doing, in a few years, he can write his own ticket, if he feels the need. $$$ doesn't strike me as a driver for coach.

Heard SS's name mentioned. I would hope SS sticks around for a few given all the opportunity afforded him by APP.

Word is ECU wants the NIU coach. Their AD came from there and hired him to coach at NIU. Would love to beat NIU in a bowl to send Ruffs replacement out with an L if it works out that way.

Hypothetically, if ECU were to take SS would you guys be interested in Ruffin as the next Head Coach in Boone?

Probably not. I think there are plenty of viable candidates out there. I wouldn't revolt if it were Ruffin, but I don't think he'd be my first choice.

To be fair, McNeill didn't win 9 games a year. In fact he only reached that total once. He averaged 7 wins a year, increasing that to not quite 8 per year over the past four.

They're gonna pay their next coach almost 5x what Satt pulls even with his new contract. I'd call that a step up :/

Step up salary wise. Living in Greenville-huge step down.

That would be between $2.5 and $3 million. Are they really looking to pay that much?

Ruffin made 1.4 million last year and ECU will now have to pay him through 2017. I don't think they will pay their new coach 2.5 million. Unless the Pirate club is kicking in a bunch. We will see.

I read over 2m, which seemed plausible. No question Boone >> Greenville but that is a huge bump. Also, it sounds like this whole thing was handled worse than the Moore situation. The new AD over there sounds like a real peach.

Watched the ECU press conference Friday. Their AD is about as "Ick" as they come, at least, that was the impression I was left with.

According to the Boneyard Banter boys, Gene Chizik (DC at UNC-CHeat) is the front runner. Take message board rumors for what their worth, it is still an interesting option, and more importantly not anyone from the App staff.
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

I know chizik interviewed yesterday. IMO that's a terrible hire, 5-19 at Iowa State. Take away Cam Newton and he's under .500 at Auburn as well. Hope they hire Eugene.

Read an article about that today. It said the rumor was that Chizik was supposed to interview yesterday, but they had confirmation that he was, in fact, on the road recruiting for UNC-Cheat yesterday.

Hard to say which is true. Not sure he'd be a great hire for them.

Not trying to make it out like I'm some journalist or such but I'm acquaintances we'll say with the guy who pretty much runs the ECU247 site (which is a million times better than ours by the way, but that's another topic for another day) and he's pretty plugged in down there. Chizik did interview, they met in Raleigh to do so. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get the job, those folks love a name around there.

I'd say your source trumps the article I read.

Hope they get him. My feeling is that'll make it that much easier to close the perceived gap between us and them.

Glenn, you actually think Chizik could get ECU anywhere near us? ;)
