Arkansas will want to make a bigger splash than a 1st year head coach at (in their view) a small time G5 school.
You could have said the same thing about Louisville...
Satterfield wasn't a first year head coach.
Obviously, but my point was people were saying UL wouldn’t want a small town G5 coach with no P5 wins, and Satt wouldn’t leave Boone for UL cause he made plenty of money here and he would stay for his kids.
I think if Drink is smart, he will be choosy and wait for a great opportunity at a school that would be patient with a rebuild, as UL said they are with Satt, but taking a P5 job with a 5x raise that secured your family's entire future is really tough to pass up

I choose not to worry about any of this coaching carousal because there is absolutely nothing about it that I can control. Therefore to me it is just wasted energy. We are fortunate to have Drink for as long as we have him. When he goes it will be because he feels it is the right decision for his family and his professional rise, and I won't fault him that at all. I will wish him the best and hope our next coach does just as well. All this talk about when and where a coach might go is just needless wasted energy because in the end nobody on here has any idea about either of those things.

I would be surprised if Arkansas went after a first year HC. He inherited a talent-filled roster. If he goes to Fayetteville, he has to rebuild a program that has been down for some time now. That would be a huge gamble. There are plenty of other options that have more experience and a track record to analyze.

Yeah this isn’t about making a splash hire for Arkansas, and after the Chad Morris failure i doubt their fan base cares about a splashy hire. They want to get this right. I highly doubt a first year G5 head coach is at the top of the list just because it’s too similar a situation to Morris, but if they strike out on their first few choices which is entirely possible i wouldn’t be surprised if they do make a run at Drink. And don’t kid yourselves, Arkansas is still a top 30ish job and will offer $20M plus over the entirety of the contract - not many would pass on that along with getting the chance to run an SEC program if it comes down to it.
That being said, Drink is in pretty solid position to run it back next year and get himself an even better landing spot.

One thing I'll say is that I do think this is close to moot if we don't win out. I have felt all along that Drink could be gone after a year or two if we win big, BUT that would require winning really big I would think. The two P5 wins obviously help his appeal, but if he/we have any more slip-ups in conference play, I'm not sure that's enough considering what he took over.
Of course, it only takes one AD to disagree with me.

Arkansas fired Morris to go after Malzahn. I doubt they would do this without having reasonable certainty of getting him.

I'm more concerned about NC State.
They are not getting rid of Doeren lol. This was a known rebuild year and they have been absolutely demolished by injuries on the defensive side of the ball. A couple more years of this and sure, but certainly not after this season.

The data shows that if these guys don’t make the move in 4 years they stay at G5 schools. Make no mistake, when the offer comes they go.

Perhaps, but as with all State coaching searches, who they go after and who they can actually get are often very different lists.

Pretty sure they can get him. He’s from the area. They were his team growing up. If they want him and can make it worth his while, I can’t see him turning it down. Unless there is a clause in his contract with Louisville about taking another ACC job.

I don't know how Satt feels about State now (or growing up for that matter). I know he still has family in the area and that could be a factor. But strictly from a football perspective, I think that would be a slight downward move.

I’ve always assumed that if we had a good season Drink would be gone after one year. I have no expectations of him still being here next season. I’d actually be more surprised if he is still here. Hold on to your butts because the recruiting around here will take a hit now that we are in the never ending G5 coaching carousel.
Satterfield was really the only possible coach to keep things steady around here by staying since he has such a history with app, but clearly even that wasn’t enough vs dollar signs. There will be no more Jerry Moore type coaches and it’s gonna suck reallll hard sometimes

There are Jerry Moore type coaches around and I could see that playing out but not this year.

I agree with this. There are three tiers of P5 coaching jobs and both UL and State kinda sit in the middle. I don’t see Satt going to State unless they offered bonkers money which would likely include a hefty buyout of his contract. They’d probably have to eat $10m just to negotiate with Satt and I don’t think State can swing it like that.
If Satt ever leaves UL, it’ll be to move into the high tier P5’s. The Penn State/Auburn/Texas level realm.
Where the money is outrageous and so are the expectations.

True t4. Unless we happen to be in the market for a head coach, none of this makes a "hill of beans" to us. Sounds like what game announcers are talking incessantly about while they are supposed to be announcing the game. IMOp, we should be talking about our season and whose arse we are whipping at a given point in time.

Perhaps we are looking at this somewhat wrong. If Drink leaves for Arkansas that would look great for us being the place to go for many upcoming coaches and will make our search for another much better. I would think we would have many coaches wanting this job. I would think Drink leaving for the "big time" would make us much more attractive for many, just like Sat did. Next man up (better then the last)

Certainly. But there is a margin of error when you hire that it doesn’t work out and that could turn the program in the wrong direction.
