Tennessee: Luckiest Team in Football

I might have missed it but I haven't seen anyone posting anything about this so here goes. Tennessee must be the LUCKIEST team in college football! They are 5-0 and one of those wins was a "fumble into the endzone for a TD" gift against us. Now, they beat Georgia on a Hail Mary after getting the ball back with 9 seconds left on the clock.
Did Butch Jones make a deal with the devil or what's the deal?

They clearly are slow starters. Against us, VT, Fla, and UGA they trailed by multiple scores. They also struggled early against Ohio, not sure if they trailed earlier or not. That will catch up to them at some point.

Yeah, last year all those close games went against them. This year they're winning them. Those things do tend to even out, though not usually in such spectacular fashion.
You do have to give them credit for coming from behind week after week, though I agree you can only play that way for so long before it bites you.

They can't afford to do that this week. A&M offense is too powerful and can score a lot of points. And it's on the road at one of the rowdiest places in all of CFB. They have some tough games coming up.

They will be introduce to the NFL by Alabama next week if A&M does not do the job. Alabama will win like 50 to 7. Their will be no comeback against Alabama. Mark my work Alabama is the only team worth talking about in the SEC this year. The rest are just average bowl teams from power 5 conferences.

Somewhat agree, but I think Tennessee gives them a good game. ESPECIALLY if they can find a way to get by A&M. But I think Alabama is actually a pretty good matchup for the Vols. Still like Bama to win, and think they're a league above everyone else in the conference but we'll see.

I read a stat before the UGA game that UT had fumbled 11 times and only lost one (the punt muff against App). They do a good job of recovering fumbles I guess.

Saw a stat too that mentioned UT had been down by 10+ in every game this season (sans Ohio) and pulled out the win. That has been the most games won by being down 10+ by an FBS team in the last 10 years or so.
If they can weather the next two weeks they could make a push for the playoff. I have a feeling they are about to be exposed though.
alas, both of App's losses have been to top 10 teams.

It would be awesome if we win out and Tennessee and Miami play in the championship game.

A&M is a big favorite.
Enjoy APPs strength of schedule with 2 teams in the top 10, come Sunday UT is probably a goner.

Honestly now that we're out of the running for the NY6, strength of schedule doesn't really mean anything for us anyway. Just something to talk about on message boards.

I agree. Wins against middle to bottom MAC and C-USA aren't that impressive. Not to mention the Sun Belt is arguably the weakest G5 conference. Plus the SOS argument would only apply if we beat Miami and Tennessee. We could then use that to help out case to cover our conference weaknesses. Time for everyone to get used to the same bowl chances each year.

A&M is going to wipe the floor with Tennessee. They couldn't control our defensive line and A&M has probably the best DE duo in the nation. No Hurd out of the backfield either. Aggies are going to win by two touchdowns at least.

Depressing that 10-2 and 8-4 really means about the same for bowl consideration. Let's win the crappy SB and hang the banner

Disagree, those are the teams we have to beat. We are far from NY6 in my opinion. Need to keep beating our peers and sneak one in like we did against UT. The rest will come with time.

Need to schedule tougher G5 opponents. Even a Tennessee win and a 11-1 finish would still likely only be good enough for one of the conference affiliated bowls. Now had we beat top C-USA and MAC teams then we'd have a case.

That's why it would be awesome. Doubtful, but awesome.

4-1 should be!

Agree, I would love to see more top G5's on our schedule. They are our true peers.

I'm not saying Akron or ODU are world beaters, but Akron's probably the co-favorite to win their division and play for the MAC title, and ODU has a pretty good shot to make a bowl at least. And we do have Marshall on future schedules and of course the rumored series with ECU. Then again, both of them suck right now, which just underscores the unpredictability of football scheduling.
