Georgia Shells Out Record Amt for Non-Conference Game

Not directly App related...but mentions us, and discusses the rising costs of bringing G5 teams to a P5 venue:

Nice to see we have some negotiating power...and wouldn't mind if we instead discounted our fee in return for a game in Boone later on! Granted - that would only work on teams like a Miami or Wake who don't exactly pack 'em in at home...

Dang, stAte getting big payouts from Nebraska (1.65 in 17), Bama (1.7 in 18) and Geogia (1.8 in 19). Hopefully we can up our ante as well.

Hopefully there are some gaps out there where we can replace Savannah State, Gardner-Webb, etc. in the next few years with a big payday and/or big home game...

For that kind of money, it makes a lot of sense (and dollars) to play SEC road games whenever we have the opportunity.

This is why it's becoming more common for P5s to schedule home-and-homes with G5s. If you aren't putting 80,000-plus in the seats for a home game, it often makes more sense for the P5 to play a return game rather than write a big check.

VA Tech, Tennessee, Auburn, UGA, Clemson and USC. I'd rather take the money at those places than play a home and home with Vandy. Or are we so flush with cash and cachet?

Take VT off that list. VERY BAD MOJO we have never played there and never should

Last time we were in Lane Stadium, it indeed was horribly embarrassing, horribly hot. One of the very, very few games I left early. One of our poorest showings ever IMO. BUT...... In the early 80s (maybe Brown to Beas on our side and Dooley on the VT side??) we had a see saw game that held the VT record for combined points for many years.

Well, except for leading UTC 14-0 and losing 72-14. I only had to listen to that one on the radio lol.

Is it possible that they are getting top dollar because they sound bigger and perhaps more significant than they actually are since they have the name of a state in their name? Can Texas State, New Mexico State, Arkansas State, Georgia State, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado State get more $$$ because they sound like they may be their state's flagship institution to the causal fan who doesn't know any better?

Nah. No SEC fan is getting excited because of any Sun Belt team regardless of name. We're all speed bumps to them until we prove otherwise.

Arkansas State is getting paid because their coach treats OOC like pre-season games and they don't show up for them.

Agree, we've been to VT but not played. For some reason my neighborhood is like an enclave of VT people (I live in the Triad) and that game was most embarrasing. I don't mind losing as much if the effort is there, but for some reason the guys just didn't seem to want to play that day. Received a little retribution in the neighborhood when Foxx's team beat them in his first year...

There you go.
See I am in the heart of VT country in fact one of my employees played there, so you see my coping skills are more than a little frayed around the edges.
