Crazy story coming out to Wake Forest. I can't imagine a former player and coach doing this to their alma mater.

This would basically be like Pierre giving away game plans to the opposing team, to give an App comparison.

Why'd he get caught before our game? Meh, we won't need it.

Am I the only one who thinks this is only the first shoe to drop?? Which schools accepted his offer? Where did the money come from to pay him for the game plans? Or did he have an ax to grind with Clawson?

Axe to grind. He played at Wake and had been on Wake's staff under Grobe since 2001, but wasn't retained by Clawson and instead went to the booth. which is also when he started shopping the game plans

Not surprised that the slim ball HC at Louisville may have received the game plans.

We played several teams this year that we could have yelled out the play at the line of scrimmage and they still wouldn't have stopped us

A 2016 Benedict Arnold. So does this launch a NCAA investigation?

This whole thing is endlessly fascinating.
A Wake alum, who rose through the ranks to be assistant coach, was let go when Clawson took over and worked with IMG to cover Wake games, was giving out information to other teams on his own volition. I can't imagine being that salty to actively sabotage your alma mater.
This could look really bad for IMG since it was their employee who did it. A rogue employee, but still one of their employees. IMG will have to do a good bit of damage control here.
This is the perfect excuse for coaches to want to shutter their program even further from the public. There's been a growing trend of paranoia from coaches over the years and now, they have their proof to justify it.
This also begs the question, if this was going on for three seasons, why didn't anyone blow the whistle on this sooner? This was an internal investigation by Wake based on evidence they gathered, so no one helped them out. With the margin between wins and losses being so small, any small bit of data could have massive ramifications.
There's also the questions regarding the potential exchange of info. How many teams accepted the info? Was there money involved? And perhaps even more damning, does this happen elsewhere?
The coaches and players at Wake Forest worked thousands of hours in the weight room, running gassers, crunching film and hitting each other in practice all to have that work compromised by a former assistant coach who you thought was a beloved alum and trusted radio announcer.

This isn't about to be over for Wake's "Benedict." He'd be wise to be retaining legal counsel. He'll be needing it.

Can you imagine if this had happened at a school which gave a damn about football? This would be huge news nationwide.

Maybe someone can help me out with this. One thing that seemed weird to me was that he was a
grad assistant for 11 years. I've never heard of someone staying in that role for so long. Why would Grobe have not promoted him to an actual coach?

He wasn't a grad assistant for 11 years. He was the QB coach and co offensive coordinator before grobe "resigned". After he was not retained by Clawson, Wellman (AD) helped him get the job with IMG as the radio color guy. His Wake connections also helped him get his day job with Verger Capital. A financial services firm that went public a few years ago. It was spun off from the Wake endowment office and still manages wake's endowment. So its not like he needed the money. And from talking to people who are close to the situation, it was all about spite and being pissed he wasn't retained by Clawson. Also, Elrod has already retained a criminal defense attorney who played football at Wake. I believe the attorney has also helped out Wake when athletes have gotten in trouble over the years. Very strange, sad story.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5UT3KaMkQM There was also a video piece by espn for college gameday a couple years ago about the Elrod's and the loss of the couple day old son. But it looks like ESPN has taken down the video from their website.

The only sad thing about this is that if affects his family and the student athletes at Wake Forest. If I was in his family the only thing in my mind would be "What would it take for him to do the same thing to me?"
He has no honor, no integrity, and no loyalty and he's in charge of managing other people's money?! Grade A loser

Interesting connection....one of Petrino's assistant coaches at Louisville is Lonnie Galloway. He also was on the coaching staff at Wake with Elrod. Also was one of Jerry Moore's assistants during our National Championship runs.

Yes, and the Indiana def coordinator in 2014 (wake played them) was the def coordinator at wake the year before with Elrod. Also, a def coach at Army that played wake during Clawson years was also a coach with Elrod at Wake under Grobe.

This originally came up after the Louisville game when Wake Forest found some evidence of their game plan in Louisville's locker room. I believe Wake went to the ACC looking for some answers.

Galloway was the coach who got the information.
