Of the 25,377 fans on average that attended each Griz home game, nearly 19,000 of those were season ticket holders, almost 75 percent of the stadium's capacity. That's more season ticket holders than the combined populations of Montana's ninth and eleventh most populous towns, Miles City and Livingston.

Montana has a great base that is obviously passionate about the program. I went to our last game out there, and experienced hospitality unlike anything i've ever seen. I do think comparing our season ticket holders to theirs is apples to oranges. Montana is the flagship university in the state, does not have pro sports in state, does not have metropolitan cities, and does not have a coastline. I know that none of these are excuses to not have App season tickets, but I guess my point is, there is not much else to do in Montana in the Fall. I do not say that as a dig. I do realize there are great parks, camping, fishing, etc. However, if you like football, Saturdays in Missoula will be your best choice. That being said, what would be a realistic goal for App? 10k to 12k?

Just curious - does anyone know roughly what our current number of season ticket holders is?

Just read that our attendance was just over 26k last year. Obviously the Miami game helped as did favorable scheduling and the weather. We all know that for App to average over 25k we really need 3 (maybe 4) things:

1- a big time opponent that gets us over 30k
2- good weather
3- no Saturday after thanksgiving game (no Thursday night either)
4- a good to great team

Attendance at most schools is down. ESPN and ESPN 3 makes a huge difference. I believe that the mini packages are still the way to go. Big time program season ticket holders can more readily unload unwanted tickets on the secondary market. Little tougher to get a buyer for the La Monroe game on November whatever.

We have a good fanbase, but Montana fans are more passionate about their team, truly one of the best fanbases in college football. They are the team for 75% of that state, slightly different circumstances.

We have probably between 6-7k season ticket holders. We are a heavy single game purchasing fanbase (family weekend, homecoming, GS game, Wake/Miami game).

Our attendance numbers are good because the large percentage of students (compared to enrollment) that come to games. Not many schools have 50% of enrollment come in the form student tickets.

Griz football is life in Montana. Not really an equal comparison really

Note that we had all four of these criteria this past season - including by far the biggest-name home opponent we'll likely have for the foreseeable future. And no weeknight or Thanksgiving weekend games will likely be a rarity.

I think your points were spot on for now, bigdaddyg. In the future I think conference realignment could help us more regularly put 25,000 to 30,000 in the seats.

Can we count students as season ticket holders since they get a free ticket for their student athletic fee? :D
Seriously, how does Montana handle student tickets?

Wow! 50%. That sure shoots down my point a few weeks ago. Now if we can just get them to be as loud as they were a few years ago, we'll be sitting pretty.

Doubt you will see 75% capacity unless we move to a different conference with more notable and relatively close opponents. We had a significant increase this past year. Anxious to see how they promote season tickets for 2017 season. Will they go with the guaranteed ticket for Wake approach, and how will that compare to the hype of hosting a historically great program in Miami? I'd expect an increase this season but not the jump like we had this past season.
