Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
Meanwhile, we are getting pretty much whatever recruits we want out of Georgia right now, while GS basically can't find anyone willing to take one of their scholarships. Are these facts related? Would we be cleaning up like this if GS were in better shape?
No way to know, of course. But it can't hurt.

Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
Exactly. I don't believe for one minute that we need a strong "Stink" for us to prosper. We needed each other more back in the SoCon days but not anymore. We could easily leave them behind or they us if the circumstances change. Might as well get every player out of GA that we can while they are a hot mess.EastHallApp wrote:Meanwhile, we are getting pretty much whatever recruits we want out of Georgia right now, while GS basically can't find anyone willing to take one of their scholarships. Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
I certainly wouldn't say that a weak GS kills App, but we benefit if our strength of schedule is stronger....even if it is only in public perception or the perception of analysts. We benefit from the Sunbelt being stronger as a whole and since our 2017 schedule excludes both ASU and Troy, it will certainly benefit App if the GS that we beat is a good team. Just my opinion, of course.

Well I also am fairly confident we will not drop football if GS is not strong but a P5 or two does not make our whole season. We still have conference play. Now without a strong GS who the heck gets you excited about our schedule? The only reason anyone outside of the Sunbelt has spent more than 3 seconds looking at it is the entrance of APP and GS and how we did it. To discount the importance of BOTH programs is just silly. Don't let P5 dust in your eyes blind you.

Not discounting them at all, just saying that we will be just fine either way. The same could be said if the roles were reversed.

I have to ask again. Who else on the schedule is of any interest?proasu89 wrote:Not discounting them at all, just saying that we will be just fine either way. The same could be said if the roles were reversed.

Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
Obviously that answer will vary by person. But if our entire program is dependent on one home game every two years, then we've got bigger problems than GS' decline.bcoach wrote:I have to ask again. Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
For 2017, you're right, Georgia Southern is the primary draw aside from Jawja/Wakebcoach wrote:I have to ask again. Who else on the schedule is of any interest?
But look at the rest of the new Sun Belt East division for 2018 onward:
Troy: the past 2 games vs Troy have been some of the most exciting App football games since the championship run.
Georgia State: Yeah, we've kicked their asses so far, but under Shawn Elliott they could become more dangerous than Georgia Southern.
Coastal Carolina: A young and hungry FBS program. Our closest conference foe and the makings of a great inter-state rivalry. Both fanbases will travel well.
And if we win those games, we can look forward to a heated matchup with Arkansas State for the Sun Belt title. All in all, I can't wait for 2018+

Actually I think you have encountered some perspective that's not your own. That does not make it a joke.bcoach wrote:I am sorry guys I was trying to be serious and didn't realize you were joking around. I get it now.

Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
I'm interested in every conference game as they all count towards a championship. I get more excited about some than others, but that will always be the case no matter the conference we're in.bcoach wrote:I have to ask again. When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

I'm sorry you haven't found any of our games against Troy to be of interest.bcoach wrote:I am sorry guys I was trying to be serious and didn't realize you were joking around. I get it now.
Triple-overtime wins in KBS on a crisp Halloween night aren't for everybody, I suppose. Neither was last season's slugfest at Troy between the undisputed two best teams in the Sun Belt that came down to the final seconds.

I didn't think Troy would be of interest this time last year.bcoach wrote:I have to ask again. Who else on the schedule is of any interest?proasu89 wrote:Not discounting them at all, just saying that we will be just fine either way. The same could be said if the roles were reversed.

I apologize I didn't see Troy on the schedule this year.NoLongerLurking wrote:I didn't think Troy would be of interest this time last year.bcoach wrote:I have to ask again. Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
They'll be on the schedule every single year after this one for as long as App is in the Belt. One season with (in your estimation) uninspiring conference play will not hurt the program.bcoach wrote:I apologize I didn't see Troy on the schedule this year.
Winning games, good kickoff times, and merciful Boone weather will do far more for attendance than Georgia Southern being good. Especially now that the GS game will be on Thursday nights ad infinitum.

Re: Former Offensive Coordinators Sue Georgia Southern
I apologize, that was either too ambiguous or too blunt. I merely meant "who knows what game will be important this year that we as fans aren't anticipating?"bcoach wrote:I apologize I didn't see Troy on the schedule this year.NoLongerLurking wrote:I didn't think Troy would be of interest this time last year.bcoach wrote:I have to ask again. Add "scheduling appealing OOC games" and hopefully "G5 conference realignment" to that list.SayYesToTheRock wrote:They'll be on the schedule every single year after this one for as long as App is in the Belt. Also, have we actually established that people won't buy tickets to watch App steamroll a struggling GS team? Frankly that sounds like a pretty fun day to me.
